To strengthen our Information Management team in Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium, we are looking to fill the position of Data Engineer: Omics and High Content Data Expert. 


As a Data Engineer: Omics and High Content Data Expert, you will deliver innovative data management solutions for cutting-edge drug discovery technologies. Your solutions will enable data analysis and decision making by therapeutic project teams throughout the drug discovery process. The skills you bring will boost a fast-moving research environment aiming to transform patients’ lives.

  • Use your exciting combination of scientific experience and IT skills to impact complex drug discovery challenges. 

    o    Accelerate drug discovery by delivering systems that expose and exploit the power of drug discovery data
    o    Design platforms using the right mixture of existing solutions and new IT tools – ensuring the many kinds of data are well integrated.
    o    Work with multi-disciplinary teams on projects right across drug discovery: from Target discovery to pre-clinical development.

 

  • Use your technical skills to extend and enrich the data management platform to support new assay technologies, e.g. Proteomics, Imaging, biophysics and many more. 

     o    Map business processes and needs then develop systems to address them
     o    Find, install and integrate data management systems to handle new assay types.
     o    Define practical but rigorous business rules to ensure data quality.
     o    Build algorithms to support data import, normalization and result calculation

 

  • Influence how scientist and IT work together - drive the adoption of new ideas at UCB such as FAIR data principles and agile development practices to deliver a powerful data management platform.
  • Strive for impact. Be an integral part of the team delivering a streamlined support model to scientists based in Belgium, U.K. & the U.S. Work with key users, vendors and wider IT team.

 

 

Your main responsibilities

 

As the Data Engineer: Omics and High Content Data Expert, you will: 

 

  • Act as a technical expert, deliver and support smart innovative data management solutions for a wide variety of high content and kinetic assay technologies including HCS, SPR, NGS etc. using tools such as ActivityBase, Screener etc.
  • Expand and enrich the data management IT platform – identify and deploy new tools that enable UCB to manage and exploit complex data.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams involving scientists, data scientists and IT to architect, design and develop solutions in an agile manner. 

 

 

Interested? For this position, you’ll need the following education, experience and skills


Required Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a scientific field required
  • 2+ years of experience in HCS or Data management role
  • Expertise in supporting or delivering data management solutions in a research environment – ideally experienced with tools such as Screener, ActivityBase etc. 
  • Demonstrable experience of managing, analyzing or integrating omics or high content data such as any of the following HCS, NGS, SPR, Flow, Proteomics etc – particularly in a target or drug discovery context. 
  • Fluent in English, you get a kick out of presenting and enjoy working in multi-disciplinary teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience managing data from traditional in vitro or in vivo assay techniques would be beneficial.
  • Love to use technology to capture or analyse high content data. For example - demonstrable experience with scripting technologies such as Python, R and/or data pipeline tools such as Pipeline Pilot, Knime etc.
  • Experience supporting the reuse of large public datasets
