Competitive Intelligence Lead

As part of UCB’s sustained and strategic commitment to bring value to patients, UCB acknowledges the importance of evidence based, patient centric decision making throughout the whole product development process.

 

In this context, UCB is looking for a Competitive Intelligence Lead who will become part of the Early Evidence Strategy Team supporting the commercial and development strategy of UCB’s early portfolio. This teams connects the innovative science to patient needs through ​evidence-driven strategies and seamless delivery of unique solutions.

 

This role will be responsible for providing strategic, competitive insights in the different markets in which UCB wants to operate and this for a range of pipeline assets for new patient populations of UCB.

 

 

You are part of a fully integrated cross functional team with our Research and Development department.

The purpose of this team is to:

  1. Connect innovative science to patient needs through ​evidence-driven strategies and seamless delivery of unique solutions ​

 

  1. Ensure the effective and efficient delivery of evidence based input that:
    •  Creates meaningful connection from science to patient value
    •  Enables fully informed decision making for internal early solutions
    •  Enables fully informed decision making for external business opportunities
    • Obtains an evidence based view on potential prioritization of scientific research in collaboration with the discovery teams
  2. Drive relevant educational initiatives within early solutions in collaboration with the program managementteam

 

Accountabilities

  1. Continuously enhance UCB’s understanding of patients, competitors, and stakeholders for new patient populations. Specifically:
    1. Develops integrated insights in partnership with other members of early evidence team (patient access, RWE, Patient Voice) to steer early commercial strategy
    2. Executes primary and secondary research to clarify business needs and reduce risk in decision making and this for molecules in development in key international markets.
    3. Oversees the delivery of objective, independent, and value driven insights gained from both primary and secondary research, designed to enable fact-based decision making.
    4. Can develop strategic partnerships through external engagements and leverages these partnerships as one of the key contributors for insights generation
    5. Can translate project work and insights into strategic implications on an independent basis
    6. Seeks out, assesses, and recommends innovative insights methodologies, information sources, and vendors
    7. Monitors the external environment to gain deep expertise in competitive intelligence and research techniques and bring those forward within the organization.
    8. Effectively manages resources to provide management with actionable information and insight regarding competitive intelligence within the assigned therapeutic area through eg Comprehensive in-house CI resourcing including Asset Intelligence, Clinical & Preclinical data, Forecasts, upcoming catalysts, company filings and broker reports, Scientific publications, conference abstracts, grants and policy documents
  2. Translation of scientific to commercial differentiation based on clinically and commercially relevant attributes with a good understanding of how the product is likely to be positioned at launch.
  3. Evidence-based identification and evaluation of indications/patient populations with greatest commercial opportunity.
  4. Assessment of threats and risks to the commercial value of our projects. Understanding competitor strategy and value proposition and the overlap with ours. Detailed competitor profiling and comparison against our TPVP.
  5. Discovering sources of future competition within the relevant ecosystem of patient journey (treatment paradigm, treatment options and preferences from Patients, Prescribers, Policymakers) beyond competing molecules.
  6. Competitor scenario mapping.
  7. Provides holistic insight-driven consultation to all levels of internal stakeholders for key brand competitive intelligence.

  1. Uphold the Market Research SOP as applicable in assigned work plan.
    1. By 3 months after joining the group, complete all MR SOP training including an understanding of Pharmacovigilance responsibilities.
    2. Insure that work under direct control follows the MR SOP and appropriate compliance practices

 

Professional skills and experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business Administration, Marketing, Statistics, or related field) required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Successful track record in previous market research roles within pharma industry for at least 7-10 years. Experience within New Medicines; as well as experience with patient engagement/patient organizations is a plus.
  • Demonstratable experience in employing differing competitive intelligence methodologies
  • Maintains extensive knowledge of the relevant therapy areas, the competitive environment within each area, patient journeys, patient experience and unmet needs, clinical practice, patient access & reimbursement, understanding of how to leverage technology and digital to support UCB.  Competitive Intelligence methodologies including eg congress intelligence, landscaping, dynamic SWOT, PESTEL, war gaming etc. 
  • Experience with futures and storytelling are important

 

 

  • Can solve tough and complex problems using a variety of approaches
  • Can conduct research and analysis independently, has strong synthesizing skills
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to translate vague information needs into specific questions relating to expected use of results are required.
  • Strong project management skills to include planning, prioritizing and organizational skills are required.
  • Strong verbal and written reporting capabilities, including strong presentation skills and fluency with MS PowerPoint.

 

  • Comfortable in a matrix environment
  • Comfort working with stakeholders from multiple countries and geographic regions
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, including influencing without direct authority, in a highly collaborative matrix environment where flexibility and change management skills are needed.
  • Strong skills to partner and communicate with stakeholders at all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

  • Some overnight travel, including internationally, required.
