To strengthen our IT team in the Brussels Area we are looking to fill the position of the IT Lead – Transversal Data Technology, driving UCB’s core IT solutions provided the data engines that power our digital business transformation.

Job Description 


The healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors were already data intensive and the global trend of digitization combined with major advancements in life sciences research is bringing even more opportunities for innovation. That is why an ambitious data strategy, supported by a solid backbone of technology solutions is so important in our quest to bring meaningful impact to patients’ lives.
As the IT Lead for Transversal Data Technology, you will accelerate and deepen UCB’s ability to unlock the power of data and collective knowledge. You will structure, define and drive the implementation of fundamental technology platforms and building blocks that allow for data management, exploitation and utilization in an efficient way across the company. You will also establish data management best practices and standards. 


You will not be bound by a specific domain but are eager to establish reusable capabilities and central functionality while being mindful for the specific needs of the different departments and business organizations.


Your main responsibilities


In this role, you will take ownership of several initiatives, focusing on establishing core components of our data management landscape. You will be responsible for:

•    Analysing technological trends and opportunities to deliver on UCB’s data strategy and defining options and appropriate projects/initiatives to drive it forward. This includes both short term opportunities as well as long term roadmaps that iteratively increase UCB’s capabilities.
•    Owning the solution evaluation/selection and leading the experimenting, prototyping and implementation of data technology projects that establish transversal capabilities, managing all aspects of the projects. These projects can involve for example but not limited to data lakes, knowledge graphs…

•    Formulating & documenting (master) data management best practices, defining frameworks, procedures, checklists and creating the supporting material. Plan appropriate training and communication activities

•    Overseeing the cross-departmental dissemination and promotion of these shared data technologies and best practices.

•    Inspiring and influence decisions makers by clarifying the impact technology can have for UCB, its partners and its patients.

To take on this challenge, you fit the following profile 


•    You have a Master’s degree in engineering or sciences
•    You have proven experience in either consulting, data management technology or enterprise / data architecture.
•    You can take complex problems and break them down in short term challenges and long term opportunities
•    You know the data management technology and vendor landscape and emerging trends
•    You can hold your own with a proficient understanding of data IT technology and associated fields like big data, informatics, AI,…
•    Your understanding of the biomedical research, biopharma, regulatory and compliance context is a plus.
•    You can demonstrate proven experience in project management.
•    You are proficient in defining strategies, procedures and best practices.
•    You are a great communicator and story teller, able to work with and influence people with different personalities, expertise and backgrounds
•    You can structure arguments, scenarios, options and solutions
•    You have the ability to lead cross-functional teams
•    You thrive in a fast paced, changing environment, and like to challenge and to be challenged
•    You are relentless in quality, you build trust and confidence
•    You are fluent in English
