To strengthen our Medical Information & Patient Support team, based in our headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Medical Information Analytics & Digital Lead.


Within Global Medical Affairs, the Medical Information & Patient Support team is playing a crucial role in partnering with Patient Value (PV) Solution Units to build, operationalize and enable UCB’s Medical Information (MI) scientific data strategy empowered by innovative technologies.


The Medical Information Analytics & Digital Lead will act as a trusted partner connecting regularly with the different PV Solution Units, Insights-to-Impact teams and IT starting with data from our medical information system, mobilizing other medical scientific data or public available health data to identify analytics opportunities in the medical scientific area that can contribute to build patient value and patient experience insights. This will be enabled by developing and on-boarding a digital transformation road map utilizing modern techniques including Artificial Intelligence (AI) that inform our patients and our business.


As the Medical Information Analytics & Digital Lead, you like to work in an environment where you will:

  • Liaise and engage with a wide range people of expertise such as the analysis / interpretation of medical information datasets, artificial intelligence (including machine learning), data mining and visualization methods.


As the Medical Information Analytics & Digital Lead, you will contribute by: 


  • Leading and further developing the digital transformation roadmap of MI and realize and lead the developments over time by onboarding new technologies in our MI IT infrastructure.
  • Lead, drive and contribute to projects that implement new or further advanced methods and tools in order automate medical information or patient support or enable advanced analytics
  • Using predictive modelling and other advanced analytical methods to create insights to optimize MI and inform patient, HCPs, customers and our business
  • Identify and implement innovative analytical solutions, which will enable the exploration of MI or other health and medical data
  • In collaboration with other experts, design and lead the implementation of analytical environments
  • Create, further develop and align in collaboration with other groups in and outside the organization data standards and analytical methods for medical information
  • Understand content and structure of MI and other health data and make it available for analysis
  • Connect to colleagues in Medical Affairs across UCB to facilitate initiatives, to identify and anticipate future technology opportunities and capabilities;

Candidates must hold an advanced degree (or have equivalent experience) in life sciences / bioinformatics / computer science with skills in the following areas:


  • Science. Strong scientific leadership combined with flexibility, genuine intellectual curiosity, ideation and eagerness to contribute are key elements of the position.
  • Medical Science. Excellent understanding of Medical Affairs/Information concepts, knowledge of life science and medicine and a passion to see the results of your work improving the lives of patients.
  • Project Management. Advanced and demonstrated project management skills are key to lead digital transformation roadmap.
  • Communication. Excellent communication and negotiation skills to ensure alignment between computational and life scientists, physicians as well as management.
  • Computer Science. Considerable experience in text-based unstructured data.
    • Demonstrable experience and passion for machine learning, data mining and data visualization, preferably applied to biomedical analytical problems with excellent knowledge of the main data types used in biopharmaceutical medical scientific data.
    • Theoretical understanding and real hands-on experience with a range of supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods. Additional knowledge of Bayesian networks and Bayesian inference techniques would be beneficial.
    • Strong practical experience with deep learning frameworks. Additional experience with high performance cloud computing services would be beneficial.
    • Technical knowledge of relevant scripting and analytics software, confidence in programming in a Linux / HPC environment would be beneficial.
