To strengthen our Global Corporate Communication Team and ensure robust, informative and engaging communications around our industry leading Neurology Portfolio, UCB is

looking for a unique and talented individual to fill the senior position of Global Communications Lead (Neurology).

 

Working from our UCB HQ near Brussels (other locations may be considered with the understanding that frequent travel and connection with Neurology contacts in HQ is a key element of this role) this is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious healthcare communications professional to join an high-performing and delivery focused team within an innovative and entrepreneurial Belgian biopharma organisation.

 

Scope:

The scope of the role offers the prospect to make a real impact, where you will be trusted to drive projects and deliver strongly to business needs, working closely with senior leaders from across UCB.

The Global Communications Lead, Neurology, represents an important, senior hire for UCB. As such, the candidate will need to showcase their ability to deliver effective, measured and impactful communications, and to meet the need of multiple stakeholders.

Combining strategic counsel, tactical implementation, and activation of UCB’s broader communications network, the Communications Lead, Neurology, will focus on internal, external and issues management communications, presenting a highly collaborative approach.

Responsible and accountable for all UCB Neurology communications, the visibility for this role is very high due to the excitement and anticipation around some of the milestones we foresee in the imminent future.

The role requires a hands-on approach, with proven experience in delivering results in a complex multi-faceted organization.

An ability to thrive in a matrix environment, demonstrate resilience, and establish strong credibility at all levels within the organisation is very important.

The ideal candidate will have a “can-do” attitude and ability to think out-of-the-box as well as collaborate and create alignment across diverse cross-functional and external stakeholders.

 

 

Major Accountabilities

The Global Communications Lead, Neurology, holds a broad strategic mandate with high visibility, interacting with internal and external stakeholders.  You will contribute by:

  • Working closely with senior leaders, and, responsible for managing one direct report as well as agencies, the Global Neurology Communications Lead will have full visibility into the portfolio and brand strategy as well as the autonomy and freedom to determine priorities and resources for the function with the view to creating maximum impact for the business. 
  • Collaborating closely with the Head of Company Reputation, Business communication colleagues, Neurology Leadership team, Mission + Regional Leads, and other internal strategic partners, you will lead on planning, directing and delivering key therapeutic areas communications strategies with a near-term focus and across Epilepsy and Movement Disorder franchises.
  • Providing support and guidance to Neurology leadership team members to ensure impactful and accurate UCB Neurology narrative is communicated to a variety of stakeholders (internally and externally). This will include personalised communications counsel to senior UCB Executive Committee members.
  • You will develop and maintain relationships with mainstream and pharma media – building on your already extensive contacts list.
  • Developing and keeping up to date core communications materials (such as press releases, Q&A, statements, fact sheets and other written materials) to support global and local communications activities. As a senior team member, you will also be a key contributor to UCB’s digital and social media content. 
  • Ensuring global communications initiatives are suitable to be deployed by LOCs (affiliates) across Europe, US, China and Japan
  • Working closely with our research and development colleagues to better communicate the opportunities present within our expansive pipeline.
  • Monitoring and measuring the impact of all communications programs and initiatives with key stakeholder audiences

In everything you do, it is imperative that all communications strategy and materials are compliant and consistent with UCB’s patient value strategy.

 

Critical competencies:

 

Interested?  For this position, you'll need the following educationexperience and skills:

  • Master/Bachelor's degree in science or communications is preferable but not essential.
  • Must be able to work on flexible schedule as the business requires including variable travel up to 30%. 
  • Seasoned communications professional with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry (ideally with some time spent in in-house and agency).
  • At least 10 years communications experience – with at least 2 years in a comparable role.
  • Proven ability to provide counsel and guidance to senior management (C-Suite)
  • Experience in global pharma communications, including data comms, disease state and patient education programs. 
  • Track record of producing international and national coverage and engaging digital content.
  • Knowledgeable of the European regulatory and compliance environment.
  • Demonstrated issues management experience. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English), presentation and interpersonal skills. 
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive team member. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization and experience in operation in a matrixed environment.
  • Experience in successfully managing multiple projects with agency partners, on time and on budget.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, creative and fast-paced environment.
