Your department and mission


Within the global UCB corporate and Finance organization, the impact to insights development solutions department is playing a crucial role in ultimately fostering a planning culture globally at UCB.


We are looking for a unique individual to strengthen our team by leading the Project Planning Team and ensure plans for project activities, resources and budget are of high quality, accurate, readily available and easily understood and consistently used across the organisation, enabling UCB to deliver on its mission to create value for patients.


Your role


The Project Planning Lead will ensure that UCB has the right capability to meet this purpose, focusing on the roles, capacity, processes and technology (Planisware) needed to provide a first class planning service.


The role is global in scope and manages a team in multiple locations. The Planning & Resource Management Team is responsible for partnering with Development Solutions, Early Solutions and the Missions, to ensure high quality planning across the lifecycle of a product as well as coordination and alignment of plans from different functional units to support this. The Project Planning Lead will also need to work closely with specific functions such as Portfolio Management, Finance and Operations, to ensure stakeholder and performance measures are met.


Additionally, the Project Planning Team will support the organization with consistent and accurate reporting, so that UCB management can clearly identify the number of ongoing projects, performance and use this information to frame any related decisions.


Key responsibilities


Planning & Resource Management Team Leadership

  • Accountable for leading the global, multi-site Planning & Resource Management Team including setting direction and objectives, defining clear roles and responsibilities, allocating tasks as well as capacity and performance
  • Accountable for Team development by ensuring feedback, coaching/mentoring, training and personal development programs are in place as per individual and collective needs


Project Planning Capability

  • Accountable for defining and implementing UCB Planning processes and best practice for project activities, resources and budgets.
  • Ensuring plans are accurate, available and consistently used across the organization as per the End to End Process e.g. stage gates aligned with Portfolio Management
  • Capacity and Resource planning for internal resources are in line with Partnership Agreements between various internal Teams
  • Time Tracking is deployed and used for maximum value at UCB e.g. tax credits and assessing the true value of an asset
  • Expenditure management via Finance/Controlling with UCB’s monthly, quarterly and annual budget cycles as set through the company 10 Year Plan
  • Planning Roles and Capacity are clearly defined in the organization to meet the above deliverables


Business System Owner for UCB’s Planning System

  • Defines and maintains the strategy and roadmap of UCB’s Planning Technology (Planisware) together with IT, stakeholders and alignment with other planning systems
  • Provides and Analyses Planning Data from Planisware and other sources to ensure UCB’s KPIs are set and met, as well as root causes for project issues (delays, resourcing concerns) and performance are well understood and addressed


Communication and Training

  • Defines and Communicates the value of high quality planning to UCB
  • Defines and Implements training to ensure UCB System and processes are understood and adopted
  • Monitors and Promotes External Trends in Planning for the benefit of the organization


Stakeholder Management

  • Partners with Portfolio Management and Governance Bodies through providing timely and accurate planning information as required
  • Partners with Finance to ensure corporate processes are complied with, continuously improved and well managed
  • Plays a Leadership role as part of the Project Management Center of Expertise Team



Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years project and program management experience in pharmaceutical research and development, with experience in enterprise planning capability and systems
  • Minimum of 3 years line management experience of multiple, global direct reports
  • Excellent understanding or drug development processes, stage gates and interfaces across the value chain, including the data and technology to support these processes
  • Excellent spoken and written English, with other languages welcome
  • Experience implementing / working with Planisware
  • Certification: PMP, APM, PRINCE2, Agile, Lean or equivalent
