To strengthen our Real-World Evidence (RWE) department, we are looking to hire a  RWE Lead Scientist based in either Brussels (BE), Slough (UK) or Raleigh (US) to coordinate RWE scientific activities supporting drugs in clinical development to treat rare disease, such as rare neuro-muscular and hematological disorders. Beyond the global RWE hubs remote location may be considered as well.

Your role summary

 

As the RWE Lead Scientist, you will lead the global RWE scientific activities  and be responsible for day-to-day project leadership, working with internal stakeholders and our internal RWE Scientists, external RWE Contract Scientists and third parties to design and execute global RWE projects using real-world data (RWD) in order to:

  • contribute to our understanding of the diseases, treatments and patient outcomes
  • drive strategic internal decision-making towards the development of clinically differentiated solutions that address unmet medical needs
  • support external decision-making by key stakeholder groups such as regulators, policy makers, payers, and prescribers
  • guide clinical development decisions with regards to the selection of appropriate clinical/patient-relevant endpoints, treatment comparators, target patients’ segments.

support key components of UCB’s Patient Value Strategy through the exploration of new perspectives that can augment ‘traditional’ clinical data, thereby reducing the time to patient access of new medicines.

The RWE Lead Scientist works in partnership with the RWE Strategy Lead (Rare Diseases) to anticipate, identify and address the RWE needs of internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful development and commercialization of our rare disease portfolio.

 

Your responsibilities

 

Furthermore, as a Lead RWE Scientist you will contribute by:

  • co-creating Global RWE Strategy, tactical & communication plans with the RWE Strategy Lead (Rare Disease)
  • mentoring TA-specific RWE Scientists; provide subject-matter guidance
  • representing the global RWE team on relevant  teams; acting as first point of contact for RWE related enquiries
  • leading RWE study execution, including study design and analysis specification and protocol development
  • liaising with RWE methodologists and RWD specialists regarding study design and choice of data sources
  • collaborate with RWE analysts during protocol implementation
  • driving interpretation of analysis, managing internal & external communication including scientific publications
  • maintaining an external network of collaborators to support the realization of the overall RWE strategic plan

 

Your background and competencies

 

You hold PhD degree in Epidemiology, Outcomes Research or other relevant scientific discipline, and have a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. You have at least 5 years of relevant research experience and a strong track record of successfully delivering global or local RWE projects from conceptualization to publication within the pharmaceutical industry or at a contract research organization. The ideal candidate would have experience as therapeutic areas lead scientist with experience of mentoring/guiding a team of staff Ideally you have experience of both pre-approval and post-approval observational studies.

 

You are a subject matter expert in epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology or outcomes research with a strong knowledge of healthcare data resources in US and Europe. You possess a good background knowledge of industry trends and best practices, specifically related to Epidemiology and Outcomes Research. You have an excellent knowledge and understanding of study designs and use-cases for RWD, plus applicable regulations in pharmacovigilance and clinical development. Your ability to solve scientific and technical questions and your expertise in the EU 5 / US healthcare environment allows you to leverage changes in healthcare systems to help plan and drive development of innovative research solutions.

 

Your oral/written English is excellent and you have a strong record in interpreting and presenting technical information for less expert audiences. You have proven ability to write/edit scientific communications (abstracts, poster presentations, podium presentations, manuscripts, etc.) and actively contribute your thoughts and ideas at cross functional team discussions on strategy. You are comfortable delivering presentations to senior industry or external stakeholders in a relaxed and proficient presentation style. Your way of working is open-minded and collaborative, building strong relationships with cross-functional teams. You proactively reach out to external/internal stakeholders to synthesize thinking, build advocacy and empower implementation of the solutions in support of UCB portfolio performance and patient outcomes.
