This position will hold responsibility for the design, development and implementation global health economics strategies and projects to generate compelling evidence that demonstrates the clinical, humanistic and economic value of UCB compound/patient solution in the development and/or in-market portfolio to payers and aligned healthcare decision makers in the following therapeutic areas: Immunology, Neurology and Rare Diseases.

The position requires the analysis and interpretation of project outcomes and driving both internal and external (through scientific publications) communication in line with the company strategy for the assigned compound/patient solution. 

This is a Global position and the jobholder will act as a partner to the other members of the Global Patient Access team, PVU (Patient Value Units) Market Access Leaders and various internal stakeholders in affiliates or global functions including but not limited to clinical development, medical affairs, global statistical solutions (GSS), publication managers and marketing.

In this capacity, he/she may be involved in the preparation, execution and follow-up of high level meetings related to the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of international as well as local health economic and outcomes research projects with key external stakeholders in partnership with key global and affiliate colleagues.

Depending on the profile of the candidate, this position may also encompass an involvement in outcomes research, strategic pricing and/or general market access-related projects in support of the above-mentioned compounds.






  • Develop and execute Health Economic strategic plans in support of the substantiation of the Payer Value Proposition of compounds in UCB’s development and in-market portfolio.
  • Partner with the clinical development and Medical Affairs colleagues in the Patient Value Units (PVUs) to ensure the integration of HE-related endpoints (medical resources use, productivity loss, utility,…) into clinical trials and retrospective / prospective observational studies, and ensure the appropriate analysis and communication of the resulting data and value messages. 
  • Collaborate with external experts, clinical development teams, commercial teams and Global Patient Access (market access) leadership and RWE colleagues to define the analyses to be conducted on specific clinical trial economic parameters by statistical programmers.
  • Write RFPs for health economic and related projects, evaluate proposals,  identify and select vendors, and effectively manage timeliness and quality of projects performed by them.
  • Coordinate literature reviews on burden-of-illness and economic evidence related to treatments in specific disease area.
  • Drive the generation/update of diversified, customer-friendly core health economic models to support HTA and reimbursement for individual products in their current and future (target) indications.
  • Drive the inclusion of HE tools and models and their findings in Core Value Dossiers and other deliverables.
  • Design, develop and conduct systematic literature reviews for the purposes of undertaking meta analyses and indirect comparisons (NMAs) of efficacy/safety endpoints for clinical differentiation and to populate health economic models and support the value proposition of the product in line with brand strategy.
  • Coordinate literature reviews to identify existing best evidence for inclusion in economic models.
  • Critically appraise clinical and economic data from an HTA-perspective to establish suitability for inclusion in economic models and other core deliverables such as global value dossiers, identify potential data gaps and design prospective/retrospective studies to generate missing data.
  • Advise key markets on the local customization of the core economic models by providing expert input to local UCB teams or external vendors.
  • Communicate, in full collaboration with the key global and local stakeholders, key HEOR findings and HE value messages and key supporting evidence internally and externally via abstracts, posters, presentations at International conferences and publications.
  • Collaborate with early solutions colleagues to input health economic perspective in to pipeline candidates


  • Provide optimal support in health economics excellence to internal stakeholders involved in the development and commercialization of UCB Immunology or Neurology compounds
  • Provide internal training in health economics when and where required.
  • Pro-actively contribute to the development of new methodologies in health economics that could be applicable to UCB projects.
  • Contribute to competitive intelligence activities to identify emerging Health Economics data and techniques, including but not limited to horizon scanning and the development of market access ‘objection handlers’ for use by the affiliates.
  • Develop and maintain collaboration with key opinion leaders and academics in health economics and outcomes research.


  • Depending on the profile of the candidate, this position may also encompass an involvement in observational research, strategic pricing or general market access related projects in support of the above-mentioned compounds.


  • Assess the payer/HTA landscape of potential (target) indications of interest. 
  • Participate in strategic pricing research and, where and when needed, support the development, review and approval input on (operational) pricing business cases through the identification of the ‘economically justifiable price’




Master’s Degree in Health Economics, Statistics or subject related to Health




  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in Health Economics-related projects and activities including economic modelling development and implementation, HTA submissions and reviews in Pharma or Biotech industry or consultancy
  • Demonstrable track record of performing high quality research (i.e. scientific publications; abstracts, posters, full papers in peer-reviewed clinical and/or economic journals). 
  • Knowledge of both US and key international health care systems (UK, Canada, Germany,..,].) is preferred.
  • Ideally, prior experience in outcomes research, access, PROs , and pricing. 
  • Specific skills (Include specific skills and knowledge necessary to meet the objectives of the position) • Combination of strong methodological quantitative and analytical skills. 
  • Sound understanding of how to successfully apply health economic research principles and efficiently communicate the resulting evidence to support the development and commercialisation of products in the Immunology or CNS Therapy Area. 
  • Understanding of clinical trial conduct and clinical development in general. 
  • Good understanding of the health economic research designs that produce relevant payer value information in both a development and post-launch period.
  • Strong economic modelling and HE project management skills.
  • Immunology and or rare disease experience helpful

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
