To strengthen our sustainability team based in our HQ Brussels (Belgium), we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of:  Social Business Lead

In Low-and-Middle Income Countries (LMIC), UCB has the ambition is to contribute to better epilepsy care and to improve access to UCB solutions for patients with epilepsy

The purpose of this role is to lead the social business projects and programs that will be designed and implemented by UCB to deliver on this ambition.


You will contribute by:


Major Accountabilities:


  • Accountable for UCB social business program and projects in Low-and-Middle Income countries, starting in India and Rwanda (pilot projects and scale up)
  • Lead a cross functional network inside UCB to define the impact expected and key performance indicators to measure progress towards targets
  • Analyze the tax/legal/financial implications associated with the selected social business structures and make a final recommendation for the best options.
  • Set-up, through cross-functional internal collaboration, the delivery road map for the different projects (including risk and mitigation plans)
  • Define the sequence and timing for roll-out of the different social business projects
  • Lead interactions with governments, institutions, NGO and potential funders to ensure the successful implementation of the projects 
  • In collaboration with the program manager sustainability and the sustainability medical lead, drive the operational set-up of all social business activities at UCB up to impact measurement (pilot projects at an initial stage & scale up)
  • Member of the management committee of UCB CSR fund


Critical competencies:


Interested?  For this position, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:


  • Minimum of 15 years working experience of which at least 10 years’ experience in social business, NGOs, international institutions with a focus on delivery of impact driven health-related programs
  • Comfortable working in a complex matrix environment
  • Master’s degree ideally in international development, social sciences, sustainability
  • In-country experience (Sub Saharan Africa/Asia)
  • Experience in setting up and managing social business structure in Africa and Asia
  • Excellent negotiation & alliance management skills
  • Project Management skills
  • Ready to travel internationally (up to 40%)
  • Fluent in English  
  • Knowledge of any of the following languages is considered as an asset: French, Chinese, Hindi
