To strengthen our U.S. Neurology Missions team based in Smyrna, Georgia, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Head of Marketing Orphan Rare Disease


The Head of Marketing Orphan Rare Disease is responsible for all commercial and pre-commercial activities related to the launches of assets in generalized Myasthenia Gravis (gMG) consistent with UCB’s Patient Value operating model.

The person in this role will lead UCB Marketing into the new world of MG and orphan and rare disease, developing institutional competencies required to gain meaningful insights into the journey of patients and providers; develop relationships with key stakeholders across the care ecosystem; identify and address obstacles to appropriate diagnosis, care and drug access; and establish UCB as a credible and trusted medical, scientific, personal, and business partner for patients, providers and payers.

  • Build out the Orphan Rare Disease (ORD) marketing team, spearheading the development of the new org chart and job descriptions, and recruiting brand leads for both assets with appropriate ORD product launch and management experience..
  • Oversee the pre-launch strategic marketing plan including audience characterization and segmentation, thought leader and influencer mapping, MOD and MOA alignment, patient support and engagement infrastructure, access and distribution program(s), and Marketing / Medical collaboration.
  • Foster a data-first mentality in ORD applying UCB best practices in audience and ecosystem characterization, tracking and analysis (including AI) to optimize field resources, physician engagement, and patient value creation opportunities through dynamic targeting and omnichannel marketing techniques.
  • Drives product launch planning and implementation to ensure that both assets deliver the highest level of patient value as quickly as possible after approval.  This includes but is not limited to production forecasts, positioning, launch strategy, messaging, EET allocation and training, access, and promotional support.


You will contribute by:

  • Demonstrating deep knowledge and understanding of the MG disease state, existing and expected medical interventions, patient journey, UCB medical strategy, and overall challenges of working in an orphan and rare disease environment.
  • Creating a roadmap for UCB leadership in Orphan and Rare Disease – based on in-depth analysis of best practices among biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, device and technology providers in MG and other ORD categories, and by establishing and managing to specific performance standards and program benchmarks.
  • Ensuring optimal final product design and delivery, oversees development of final brand name, brand dress, packaging, delivery methods and distribution for both assets to maximize utility and appeal based on market research and user input.
  • Participating in and helping steer global communication strategies for both assets, and represents US interests in Global Brand management process, including 3-year and 10-year plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10 + years in pharmaceutical / biopharmaceutical sales or marketing, or equivalent
  • 7 + years in leadership roles managing individuals and teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or other advanced degree relating to operations, strategy or marketing preferred
  • Proven successful launch experience in orphan / rare disease, or equivalent
  • Ability to lead in an agile organizational model – establishing clear, shared purpose and vision; setting high standards for ownership and accountability; empowering individuals to establish priorities and allocate resources dynamically based on situational assessments; and embracing iteration and experimentation towards an optimal endpoint
