US Medical Affairs Practice Excellence Lead

To help us meet our ambitions and provide the best solutions to patients, UCB is currently seeking a talented individual as a Medical Affairs Practice Excellence Lead based at our US headquarters in suburban Atlanta, Georgia

A member of the US Patient Value Operation organization and reporting to the Head of US Medical Affairs, the Medical Affairs Practice Excellence Lead is responsible for the implementation of the skillset development plans for the US Medical Affairs Practice team across all Patient Value Units (Immunology, Neurology and Bone). This newly created and essential role is key to further developing UCB medical strategic capabilities, competencies and leadership.      


In partnership with the Head of US Medical Affairs, the following, but not limited, are the critical responsibilities of the role:

  • Strategic contributor to evolving US medical affairs practice competencies and medical leadership
  • Gain insights on short and long term medical affairs practice training needs
  • Develop career development plans in line with pharma industry medical affairs standards and based on UCB Patient Value Strategy  
  • Develops, leads and ensures consistency in the medical onboarding experience for the newly hired medical affairs practice members in alignment with the three Patient Value Units (Immunology, Neurology and Bone)  
  • Collaborate and align with all three Patient Value Units on the development of the medical performance metrics and impact  
  • Mentor medical affairs practice members
  • Leads the planning and coordination of key medical affairs practice event logistics (e.g., Medical Affairs Practice Excellence Meeting) including working closely with vendor(s) on site selection, contract negotiation, team building events, etc
  • Ensures maintenance of the US medical affairs team roster
  • Assists in identifying areas of improvement in process/policy, develops recommendations/plans, and leads initiatives, as required
  • Represent US team and work collaboratively with global medical affairs practice team members (i.e. Head of the Medical Affairs Quality System as well as Head of Medical Affairs Excellence, Leadership and Governance)   


Minimum Requirements

  • PharmD, PhD or MD is required
  • Strong understanding of overall medical affairs value proposition and industry standards
  • Experience of 10-12 years in various roles of medical affairs
  • Field medical affairs experience is preferred 
  • Experience in building and implementing medical affairs competency models and career development plans  
  • Relevant medical affairs work experience in managing complex and impactful projects
  • Must be a strong team player and be willing to work in an environment where individual initiative and accountability are required
  • Ability to lead projects with limited supervision and strong prioritization, time management, and organization skills. 
  • Travel requirements ~20%
