This position will hold responsibility for the assisting with the design, development and implementation global health economics strategies and projects to generate compelling evidence that demonstrates the clinical, humanistic and economic value of UCB compound/patient solution in the development and/or in-market portfolio to payers and aligned healthcare decision makers in the following therapeutic areas: Immunology, Bone, Central Nervous System (CNS) or early pipeline assets.  The position requires the analysis and interpretation of clinical outcomes and driving both internal and external (through scientific publications) communications in line with the company strategy for the assigned compound/patient solution.  This is a Global position and the jobholder will act as a partner to the other members of the MPAP team and various other internal stakeholders in affiliates or global functions including but not limited to clinical development, medical affairs, global statistical solutions (GSS), publication managers and marketing.  In this capacity, he/she may be involved in the preparation, execution and follow-up of high level meetings related to the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of international as well as local health economic and outcomes research projects with key external stakeholders in partnership with key global and/or country operations colleagues.  

Depending on the profile of the candidate, this position may also encompass an involvement in outcomes research, strategic pricing and/or general market access-related projects in support of the above-mentioned compounds.


Leads the development of Health Economic strategic plans in support of the substantiation of the Payer Value Proposition of compounds in UCB’s development and in-market portfolio.

  • Leads the development of a holistic Payer Evidence Strategy  that optimizes demonstration of the unique value created for patients with UCB assets and maximizes opportunities with payers.
  • Partner with colleagues in the Patient Solution Teams (PSTs) to ensure the integration of HE-related endpoints (medical resources use, productivity loss, utility,…) into clinical trials and retrospective / prospective observational studies, and ensure the appropriate analysis and communication of the resulting data and value messages.
  • Collaborate with external experts, clinical development teams, commercial teams and MPAP leadership and colleagues to define the analyses to be conducted on specific clinical trial economic parameters by statistical programmers.
  • Write RFPs, evaluate proposals,  identify and select vendors, and effectively and timely manage projects performed by them.
  • Coordinate economic literature reviews related to treatments in specific disease area.
  • Support the generation/update of diversified, customer-friendly core economic models to support market access for individual products in their current and future (target) indications.
  • Support the inclusion of HE tools and models and their findings in Core Value Dossiers and other deliverables.
  • Assist in the design, development and conduct of systematic literature reviews for the purposes of undertaking meta analyses and indirect comparisons of efficacy/safety endpoints for clinical differentiation and to populate economic models in line with brand strategy.
  • Coordinate literature reviews to identify existing best evidence for inclusion in economic models.
  • Critically appraise clinical and economic data from a HTA-perspective to establish suitability for inclusion in economic models and other core deliverables such as global value dossiers, identify potential data gaps and design prospective/retrospective studies to generate missing data.
  • Advise key markets in collaboration with broader payer value strategy team, on the local customisation of the core economic models by providing expert input to local UCB teams or external vendors.
  • Communicate, in full collaboration with the key global and local stakeholders, key health economic findings, value messages and key supporting evidence internally and externally via abstracts, posters, presentations at International conferences and publications.


Leads the optimization of the clinical development programme for payers; ensuring the design of all studies in the clinical trial programme are informed by payer needs as appropriate for the development stage, and seeking innovative ways to demonstrate value through our trials

  • Across all indications under investigation (proof of concept to post approval), informs study design for optimal demonstration of the unique value created for patients, and to maximize opportunities with payers
  • Supports documented recommendations with evidence and insights from a broad range of sources, and presents pros/cons of alternative scenarios
  • Specific areas for consideration, but not limited to, include: number of studies needed, population characteristics, subgroups, comparators, dose strength and regimen, duration and timing of endpoint measurement
  • Contributing together with Health Economics, Outcomes Research and Patient-Reported Outcomes colleagues to optimize study design for payers, and implement Clinical Development Plan
  • Collaborates with the cross-functional Development Team and relevant individual study teams to ensure payer needs are appropriately accounted for in all stages of study design and implementation, including as part of the Protocol Review Team.


Provide optimal support in health economics excellence to internal stakeholders involved in the development and commercialization of UCB Immunology or CNS compounds

  • Provide internal training in health economics when and where required.
  • Pro-actively contribute to the development of new methodologies in health economics that could be applicable to UCB projects.
  • Contribute to competitive intelligence activities to identify emerging Health Economics data and techniques, including but not limited to horizon scanning and the development of market access ‘objection handlers’ for use by the affiliates.
  • Develop and maintain collaboration with key opinion leaders and academics  in health economics and outcomes research.


Support and involvement in observational research, strategic pricing and general market access-related projects in support of the above-mentioned compounds.

  • Assess the payer/HTA landscape of potential (target) indications of interest.
  • Participate in strategic pricing research through support to Market Access teams in early pipeline



  • Bachelor’s Degree Public Health, Medicine, Pharmacy or other clinical and medical fields, e.g. biology ​​​​​​​
  • 5 years of experience in Health Economics and market access-related functions in the (bio)pharmaceutical industry or consulting, could include: health economics, outcomes research, or health technology assessment with great knowledge of the US payer and healthcare ecosystem
  • Demonstrable track record of reviewing and contributing to the health economic landscape (i.e. scientific publications; abstracts, posters, full papers in peer-reviewed clinical and/or economic journals)
  • Experience of access as part of cross functional teams for commercialization
  • Knowledge of key international health care systems is preferred, with focus in the US and Europe
  • Therapeutic area experience in Immunology and/or neurology preferred
  • Payer landscape and market access experience in the US 
  • Combination of strong methodological quantitative and analytical skills
  • Sound understanding of how to successfully apply health economic research principles and efficiently communicate the resulting evidence to support the development and commercialisation of products in the Immunology or CNS Therapy Area
  • Understanding of clinical trial conduct and clinical development in general
  • Good understanding of the health economic research designs that produce relevant payer value information in both a development and post-launch period
  • Strong economic modelling and HE project management skills
  • Immunology experience is preferred
  • US market experience is preferred
