Within the global UCB IT organization, the IT-Early Solution Data Platforms group is playing a crucial role in accelerating drug discovery by using the power of data to impact on complex drug discovery challenges.

 

We are looking for an individual with a rare combination of IT skills and scientific experience to strengthen our team.

 

As a Data Engineer working with omics and high content data you will deliver innovative data management solutions for new drug discovery technologies. Your solutions will enable data analysis and decision making by therapeutic project teams throughout the drug discovery process. The skills you bring will boost a fast-moving research environment aiming to transform patients’ lives.

The projects we are addressing include proteomics, functional genomics or mass cytometry (CyTOF) assays. If you have experience in any of these areas and are keen to join a dynamics IT team embedded within a fast-moving biopharma, then please apply.

 

The role is based in Boston, MA. Regular travel will be required to our other research sites in Belgium, U.K. and U.S.A. (WA & NC).

 

Your main responsibilities

As Data Engineer: Omics and High Content data, you will:

  • Use your scientific background to address drug discovery challenges managing high content data and your IT skills to solve them.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to understand requirements through from Target discovery to pre-clinical development.
  • Design platforms using the right mixture of existing solutions and new IT tools – ensuring the many kinds of data are well integrated.
  • Work with internal and external teams to deliver solutions on time and within budget.
  • Use your technical skills to enable the capture and management of experiment data – focusing on a wide variety of complex assays, e.g. Proteomics, Imaging, NGS and many more.
  • Build custom algorithms to support data import, normalization and result calculation.
  • Integrate custom algorithms with tools like Screener and E-WorkBook.
  • Define practical but rigorous business rules to ensure data quality.
  • Influence how scientist and IT work together - drive the adoption of new ideas at UCB such as FAIR data principles and agile development practices to deliver a powerful data management platform.
  • Strive for impact. Be an integral part of the team delivering a streamlined support model to scientists based in Belgium, U.K. & the U.S. Work with key users, vendors and wider IT team.

  • Passionate about exploiting the power of data by delivering data management solutions in a fast-evolving research environment.
  • Experienced in managing or analysing data from high content techniques. In this role you will be managing many kinds of data so experience in any of the following (or similar) is useful: Proteomics, HCS, NGS, SPR, Flow, CyTOF etc.
  • Love to use technology to capture or analyse high content data. Demonstrable experience with scripting technologies such as Python, R or pipeling tools such as Knime etc.
  • Ideally you will have experience with tools such as Screener, ActivityBase, LabKey etc.
  • Fluent in English, you get a kick out of presenting and enjoy working in multi-disciplinary teams.
