Within the global UCB IT organization, the IT Early Solutions Innovation Development group is playing a crucial role in accelerating drug discovery by using the power of innovation, proposing cutting edge technology and specialized IT expertise to impact on complex drug discovery challenges.

 

We are looking for a unique individual to strengthen our team, with a combination of IT skills and provisioning of early discovery scientific applications to strengthen our team.

 

As Innovation Development Lead, you will be driving IT initiatives requiring a very close collaboration with US scientists, analysts, bioinformaticians/chem-informaticians and a good understanding/knowledge of the drug discovery environment and the challenges. You will lead the ideation and introduction of novel applications and software tools needed for Early Drug Discovery. The responsibility involves enabling scientists with cutting edge IT technologies by provisioning the use of Open source (AI/ML) to commercial software tools for the drug discovery process. The skills you bring will boost a fast-moving research environment aiming to transform patients’ lives at UCB Early Solutions.

The projects that we are addressing in this role include datasets such as proteomics, genomics, imaging analysis. If you have experience in any of these areas and are keen to join a dynamic IT team embedded within a fast-moving biopharma then please apply.

The role is based in Boston, MA. Regular travel will be required to our other research sites in Belgium, U.K. and U.S.A. (WA & NC).

 

Your main responsibilities

As the Innovation Development Lead, you will:

  • Drive and lead new scientific software development projects through ideation and introduction of novel applications and tools  
  • Bring and introduce awareness of cutting-edge technologies among the internal scientific and IT community
  • Identify and enable technology & opportunities to cover unmet needs for Early Solutions
  • Mentor a team of software developers based in Bangalore,  coordinate and ensure the technology value delivery of projects .development team
  • Play crucial role as technology advisor, expert for the design of the solutions
  • Interface with Early Solutions Scientists and IT teams (Architecture, Infrastructure, Security and other groups at IT)

  • Master’s Degree in science or engineering or technology is must, with
    strong background in scientific software development.
  • Previous experience within a research-based scientific computing environment is essential, preferably within a Life Sciences (Pharma, BioTech)
  • Love working with multidisciplinary teams, e.g. data scientists, chemists, informatics, genetics, protein scientists, biologists.
  • Passionate about solving the problems and sharing your passion for driving the change by tell compelling stories to people with different personalities, expertise and backgrounds
  • Fast paced, changing environment doesn’t scare you. On the contrary, you easily manage the change by adopting to the pragmatic solutions and can handle the complex business problems, thanks to your can-do attitude
  • Expertise in technologies such as data visualization, data integration, analytics in research /scientific environment
  • Deep understanding of various data storage systems and experience with graph databases and related technologies
  • Modelling / IA  Data analysis skills using common Data Mining and Machine Learning tools based on Python, R, Julia.
  • Hands on experience with Container for scientific computing , large-scale computing environments,HPC, cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. Azure, Google, AWS) for scientific application.
  • Good understanding of the common research-based scientific computing environment (e.g. R/ Bioconductor, Python and Scientific programming), Common web tools (Dash/Shiny ..)

            Fluent in English (Excellent oral and writing skills)
