For our Boston/Bedford laboratory, we are seeking a laboratory-based Principal Scientist for execution of electron microscopy experiments to support diverse drug discovery programs. 

 

Primary Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Execute all aspects of cryo electron microscopy (CryoEM) including sample preparation, grid preparation, screening, assessment of experimental results, optimization of experimental conditions, data collection, and structure determination. Data acquisition will take place at multiple locations.
  • Work closely with project team members, protein production teams, and other structural biologists across UCB research sites (including Seattle WA USA, Slough UK, and Braine-l’Alleud Belgium) to successfully progress drug discovery projects under aggressive timelines and impact UCB’s drug discovery programs and patients’ lives.
  • Adhere to industry standards of laboratory technique to ensure experimental integrity, including careful documentation of results in electronic laboratory notebooks.
    Education and Experience:
    Essential Requirements
  • PhD in applicable field (biochemistry, chemistry, molecular & cellular biology, etc.) or BS and 8 plus years of relevant industry experience.
  • 2-5 years of CryoEM experience, including in sample handling, microscope operations and data analysis.
  • Understanding of protein biochemistry, recombinant proteins and protein biophysical characterization.
  • Ability to succeed in a face-paced, results-driven environment.
  • High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.

 

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working with multi-component systems such as protein-protein complexes, and/or protein-nucleic acid complexes in the absence and presence of small molecules.
  • Experience in the field of targeted protein degradation.
