To strengthen our Early Research and Development Team, based in our Boston office in Bedford, MA, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Research Associate.

Job Summary  

For our Bedford laboratory, we are seeking a highly-motivated full-time Research Associate to perform a variety of complex technical duties involving mammalian cell engineering for signal transduction and reporter assay development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for transgene design, generating a variety of disease relevant cell culture models, designing and executing experiments to test engineered cell lines, analyzing data, and communicating results to UCB colleagues. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn cutting-edge genomic technologies while contributing to ongoing drug discovery and development efforts across UCB sites.

 

Major Accountabilities

  • Generation of cellular models to mimic disease biology and serve as functional screening tools by CRISPR-based approaches and other transgene delivery methods
  • Develop work-plans with international UCB colleagues to deliver timely solutions to cell model needs in UCB therapeutic areas
  • Plan, execute and troubleshoot routine assays and procedures (i.e. molecular cloning, PCR, transfections, transductions, cell-based reporter assays, etc.)
  • Accountability for achieving project milestones and delivering on objectives

 

Essential Requirements

  • BS in biological sciences or related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience, in academic, pharmaceutical or biotechnology settings.
  • Proficiency in basic molecular biology including cloning, PCR, mammalian cell culture, transfection procedures and immunoassays (e.g. flow cytometry, ELISA, Western blotting)

 

Desirable Requirements

  • MS preferred
  • Experience in using functional genomics tools including CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing preferred
  • Experience with lentivirus generation and transduction to generate stable cell lines preferred
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Ability to learn and implement new assays with high accuracy and precision
  • Ability to teach and transfer skills (e.g. cell culture, reporter assays, screening technologies) to less experienced personnel
