The Organization:

UCB is a fast-moving global biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of innovative medicines and solutions to transform the lives of people living with severe diseases affecting the immune and central nervous systems. With more than 7,700 people in approximately 40 countries, the company generated revenue of € 4.2 billion in 2016. UCB invests more than 25% of revenue in cutting-edge scientific research with the objective of solving unmet patient needs. We have a passionate, long-term commitment to the discovery and development of innovative medicines that transform the lives of people with severe diseases. At UCB everything we do starts with a simple question: “How will this make a difference to the lives of people living with severe diseases?” We do that by connecting with patients and their families around the world living with the physical and social burdens of severe disease of the immune system and the central nervous system. Those connections offer new perspectives, drive innovation, and offer the hope of a new generation of therapies that will help to transform lives.

  • Develop methods for high yield expression of novel target proteins.
  • Multitask and perform small and large-scale experiments with varying targets in parallel under aggressive timelines.
  • Understand, optimize and execute all methods and techniques required for protein expression experiments in mammalian, insect and bacterial expression systems from small scale expression testing to production scale with strong aseptic techniques.
  • Provide strong scientific thinking, develop hypotheses and drive scientific learnings on projects.
  • Accountability for achieving project milestones and delivering on objectives.
  • Analyze and present data in meetings and to external audience as needed.

    Education and Experience:

    Essential Requirements

  • MS or PhD in applicable field.
  • 3-5 years of applicable research experience, with excellent scientific track record.
  • Advanced lab skills in recombinant protein expression for a variety of proteins and cell types, including prokaryotic, insect and mammalian expression systems.
  • Understanding of protein expression/purification workflows along with production experience.
  • Understanding of protein biochemistry, tagging schemes and protein biophysical characterization.
  • Excellent communicator, with good presentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently but also to thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway is highly desirable.
  • Neuroscience and/or immunology background is a plus.
  • Experience in the use of proteomic techniques for measuring changes in protein expression, post-translational modification and protein-protein interactions.
