Senior Research Associate - Functional Biology - Targeted Protein Degradation

We are seeking a Senior Research Associate lab-based scientist with responsibility for the development and prosecution of in vitro biochemical and cellular assays to support drug discovery in targeted protein degradation. 

 

Primary Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Development and execution of functional and biochemical approaches to evaluate targeted protein degradation including assessment of target and E3 ligase biology, ubiquitin proteasome pathway, complex protein dynamics and downstream function in physiologically and biochemically relevant assays.
  • Lab based scientist responsible for assay development and biochemical data to successfully progress drug discovery projects (NCE/NBE) under aggressive timelines.
  • Drive implementation of technology developments assisting the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of potential therapeutics.
  • Provide strong scientific thinking, develop hypotheses and drive scientific learnings on projects.
  • Ensure impactful project contributions through effective internal and external collaboration.

Education and Experience:

Essential Requirements

  • MSc in applicable field or equivalent experience gained through industry.
  • 2-4 years of applicable research experience, with excellent scientific track record. 
  • Experience of applying cellular and biochemical techniques for target validation, drug discovery screening and evaluating the mechanism of action of novel molecular entities.
  • Direct experience of the design, development, optimization and prosecution of a range of in vitro cell-based and biochemical assays.  This will include experience of analysis and statistics relevant to in vitro screens.  Experience with relevant software tools, and automation will be an advantage. 
  • Experience in biochemical approaches, and cell biology techniques including but not limited to binding assays, FRET, protein complementation assays, working with PPI, determination of kD (FTS/DSF, ITC, SPR or similar). 
  • Experience with lab automation, robotics and high throughput screening (HTS) is a must.
  • Ability to execute independently with little direction but also to thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway including monitoring the ubiquitin-proteasome and autophagy system and protein-protein interaction complex dynamics are a plus.
  • Neuroscience and/or immunology background is a plus.
  • Understanding of protein biochemistry, recombinant proteins and tagging schemes and protein biophysical characterization.
  • Experience with small molecules/ligands/therapeutics in a pharma/biotech environment.
  • Background with functional genomics and proteomics a plus.
