Job Location: Braine L’Alleud, Belgium

To strengthen our research investment to identify novel drug targets for neurodegeneration, we are currently hiring a talented PhD for a 3-year post-doctoral position to join the Neuroscience Discovery Biology group based in Braine L’Alleud, Belgium. The aim is to understand underlying mechanisms of age-related neurodegeneration and to validate newly identified targets and pathways in trans-differentiated neurons of patients. The post-doc scientist is expected to implement novel technologies to study age-related neurodegeneration ‘in-a-dish’, set-up high-content imaging and ‘omics approaches and apply CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to validate novel targets. In order to achieve this goal, we are seeking a highly skilled, lab-based post-doctoral scientist in neuroscience, ideally with expertise in the field of neurodegeneration.  He/she will work in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment.

Experience &Technical Skills

The candidate has a very good knowledge and experimental skills in molecular and cellular biology, particularly human iPSC culture and neuronal differentiation or transdifferentiation methods. She/He is skilled in designing well thought experimental studies and has the appropriate analytical skills to quantify and analyze data using Excel, Graphpad Prism and other statistical software. She/He is proactive in challenging current models/theories by proposing constructive new ideas.

The position requires following:

  • Engage in exciting new drug discovery research for identification of new targets involved in neurodegeneration
  • Develop critical assays for target identification and validation
  • Perform target validation and mechanism of action studies
  • Knowledge and experience of a wider range of in-vitro biological techniques, which may include molecular biology (CRISPR), biochemistry, analysis of signaling pathways, immunocytochemistry
  • Knowledge on primary cell culture, iPSC differentiation methods
  • Experience in microscopy, preferably with multi-parametric imaging read-outs
  • A strong interest and/or expertise in integrative omics approaches

Education & Soft skills

The ideal candidate will have his/her PhD in the field of neuroscience and will have a proven track record of publications in peer reviewed, high quality scientific journals.
