At UCB, we recently announced the construction of an innovative and environmentally sustainable multi-product biological manufacturing facility on our site in Braine l’Alleud.  This new biotechnology plant is being constructed to accompany the company’s growth strategy and to prepare for the launch and for the long-term supply of future medicines that are currently in clinical development. This aims to contribute directly to drive our global ambition of improving the life of patients suffering from rare diseases.

 

The new facility, representing an investment of more than 300 million euros over the coming years, is expected to be operational in 2024. Construction is due to start in the first quarter of 2020. The biotechnology plant will be one of the largest and most modern in Belgium.

In this context, we want to strengthen the team in charge of the project deployment and to start-up these future manufacturing activities: we are looking for a Downstream Manager.

As a Downstream Manager you will be part of our Braine Technical Operations department and be involved in the design and qualification of the equipment and production areas as well in the set up the organizational and technical structure of the new Biotech Manufacturing plant in close collaboration with the Head of Biotech Manufacturing Braine.

 

You like to work in an environment where you can:

  • Support all project phases from Detailed Design to equipment qualification, to achieve the defined project objectives timely and qualitatively
  • Act as DSP area client representative during the duration of the project, within the UCB project team and towards the engineering contractor and the suppliers
  • Support and control that all activities are performed as planned and ensure significant risks are identified, mitigated and escalated as appropriate
  • Support the establishment of efficient and robust manufacturing operations
  • Develop the DSP team and organization to be able to support the project efficiently and to move smoothly into manufacturing operations

 

You will contribute by:

 

  • Leading the UCB DSP team supporting and ensuring that the project key success factors (performance, sustainability, compliance, safety, strategic fit) are embedded into the project design and fulfilled
  • Controlling that activities are performed by the suppliers as stated in the respective contracts
  • Ensuring that significant issues and risks are identified, mitigated and escalated as appropriate
  • Ensuring and reinforcing an efficient coordination with the engineering company and the suppliers
  • Ensuring an efficient communication and integration with all other project functions (BU/CU, Infrastructure, C&V, Automation…)
  • Ensuring that DSP process equipments and operations are designed, installed and qualified as per industrial technical standards, complying with GEP and GMP rules and in a harmonized manner with DSP and support equipment
  • Ensuring all HSE requirements are integrated in all aspects of the project
  • Supporting the set-up of an efficient process project team organization able to perform the project tasks (design, installation, commissioning, verification) and moving smoothly into an operational mode at end of the project
  • Ensuring that DSP team will be trained adequately to the required project procedures
  • Ensuring proper and efficient integration of new employee
  • Preparing and supporting the operational start-up of the plant 

 

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

 

  • Master’s Degree
  • +8 years of experience in Biotech manufacturing operations and /or related projects
  • Experience in running large scale downstream production suite
    • Strong knowledges of cGMP and HA regulations
    • Ability to construct and develop agile, skilled and proactive organization
    • High leadership skills
    • Ability to work in highly dynamic environment and to handle challenging situations
    • High communication skills (leadership, change management, facilitation)
    • Decision making ability and high sense of responsibility
    • Ability to challenge and argument
  • Ready to travel a limited period of time
