Post-doc Scientist in Epilepsy

Post-doctoral researcher in epilepsy, Neuroscience Discovery Biology

To strengthen our research investment to identify novel drugs to cure refractory epilepsy, we are currently hiring a talented PhD for a 3-year post-doctoral research position to join Neuroscience Discovery Biology group based in Braine L’Alleud, Belgium. The aim is to understand underlying mechanisms of mToropathies in drug resistant epilepsy. Identification and validation of new pathways and potential drug targets in hiPSC-derived neurons is the major aim of the research. This will require the development of new technologies and assays with various molecular and cellular approaches.

In order to achieve this goal, we are seeking a highly skilled post-doctoral researcher with neuroscience background, ideally with expertise in the epilepsy field.  The position allows working in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment.

Experience &Technical Skills

The candidate has very good knowledge and experimental skills in molecular and cellular biology, particularly human iPSC culture and neuronal differentiation, viral transduction, CRISPR gene editing, neuronal phenotyping. Experience in either electrophysiology (MEA), high content imaging, transcriptomics, Turbo-ID or MS are additional assets. She/He is skilled in designing well thought experimental studies and has the appropriate analytical skills to quantify and analyze data using Excel, Graphpad Prism and other statistical software. She/He is proactive in challenging current models/theories by proposing constructive new ideas.

The position requires following:

  • Engage in exciting new drug discovery research for identification of new targets involved in epilepsy
  • Develop critical assays for target identification and validation
  • Perform target validation and mechanism of action studies
  • Knowledge and experience of a wider range of in-vitro biological techniques, which may include molecular biology (CRISPR), biochemistry, analysis of signaling pathways, immunocytochemistry
  • Knowledge on primary cell culture, iPSC differentiation methods

Education & Soft skills

The ideal candidate will have his/her PhD in the field of neuroscience and will have a proven track record of publications in peer reviewed, high quality scientific journals.
