To strengthen our team, based in our hub in Braine l’Alleud, Belgium, we are looking to fill the position of: BioProcess Engineer: Tech Transfer & Automation at Biologics Pilot Plant (BPP)

As a UCB 'helpfulurist' and Biologics Pilot Plant Bioprocess Engineer you like to work in an environment where you can:

• Support the biologics manufacturing activities on-going in the facility as well as the manufacturing activities happening at our manufacturing partners facilities. This candidate will be part of the BPP process engineering team.

• With core expertise in bioprocess engineering, you will have special focus (maximum 30% of your time) as super user on automation systems (such as PCS7). You will act as biopilot expert (SME) in execution, troubleshooting & improvement of BPP bioprocess needs via automation

As a UCB 'helpfulurist' and Biologics Pilot Plant Bioprocess Engineer you will contribute by: 
• Performing the transfer of processes from small-scale development units to the pilot plant and from pilot plant to commercial manufacturing sites. (Manufacturing/Process Description, mass balance, end of campaign summary meetings, risk assessment, campaign reports, lessons learnt)

• Acting as BPP automation bioprocess expert user. This means being responsible as BPP point of contact super user to support primarily Zeta & PCS7 and to a later stage other automation tools (e.g. UniCorn)

• Supporting manufacturing teams by being a process and process equipment expert; taking part / leading troubleshooting challenges faced during the execution of process, in compliance with cGMP rules.

• Leading the design of new – or modified process equipment, (re-) qualification of equipment,  (re-) validation.

• Driving/Supporting continuous improvements of equipment, systems and methods to increase UCB’s Biologics Pilot Plant efficiency.

• Setting-up and improving process monitoring, data management and process learning, identify, develop and implement potential process improvements..

• Working closely with other SMEs to standardize operational practices and monitoring among the different areas/scales.  

• Leading deviations (Creation, Root Cause assessment, Impact Analysis, CAPA definition and execution, investigations) and change controls (new process introduction, technical modifications of the facilities)

• Mentoring and supervising junior process engineers as well as colleagues inside & outside the group. 
 Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills
• MSc level of education in process or bioprocess engineering or biotechnology with 3-5 years of experience in running, designing or supporting cell-based manufacturing activities of biologic drug substance.

• Sound knowledge of technologies and unit operations involved in (upstream and/or downstream) bioprocessing.

• Able to understand/master various automation technologies (Zeta, Siemens, Unicorn…), their functional specifications and their architecture.

• Practical experience with technology transfers, scale-up and optimization of processes.

• Track record of defining/leading/coordinating specific projects.

• Continuous improvement mind-set and experience with lean manufacturing initiatives.

• Experience of equipment qualification/validation, including URS creation and qualification execution.

• Good quality understanding in GMP-related environment.

• Excellent communication skills, as interacting with different teams/stakeholders: operators, production managers, process development scientists; equipment and material vendors, production QA representatives, maintenance, metrology…

• Fluent in French and English, both spoken and written.

• Team player, and experienced to work interactively with various stakeholder and under limited supervision.

• Excellent time-management skills, and experienced to work pro-actively to achieve given milestones and objectives. Able to work with time pressure.

• Proven capability to act in complex and high pace projects and environments.
