Help us transform patients’ lives.

At UCB, we put our heart, soul and skills into making a difference for people living with severe disease. Working together to push the boundaries, we blend the best of our talents to unlock innovation. Will you join us in our pioneering adventure?

Research Associate Screening Sciences, Neuroscience Discovery Biology

We are currently hiring a talented in vitro pharmacologist/biologist to join the Neuroscience Discovery Biology group based in Braine-L’Alleud, Belgium. The remits of the group include but are not limited to support our pre-clinical CNS projects by developing disease relevant biochemical and cell based assays with the aim of screening compounds and delivering high quality relevant data in a timely fashion, by studying and understanding the mechanism of action of more advanced compounds to select only the best candidates to progress to the clinic. In order to achieve these goals the group has access to state of the art instrumentations and technologies either internally or through collaborations.

To further strengthen our capabilities in preclinical research, we are seeking a highly skilled, lab-based scientist with experience in in vitro pharmacology, biology and medium/high throughput screening. The candidate will be part of a team implementing and running novel CNS disease relevant screening assays to identify new hit compounds, support lead optimization, candidate selection and characterization.

He/She will be providing high quality data and scientific support under supervision of PhD level scientists. Pro-actively suggesting new steps and constantly seeking for process optimization while developing and running screening assays will be essential as well as active searching for new methodologies.

Experience &Technical Skills

The ideal candidate has acquired his/her master degree in the field of biology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences or biotechnologies with minimum 3 years of experience in a drug discovery and screening environment. She/He is able to set-up bespoke screening assays to assess relevant pharmacological parameters such as affinity/potency of test molecules for targets like enzymes, receptors, transporters, or ion channels. He/She knows how to quantify and analyze pharmacological data using Excel, GraphPad Prism or similar data analysis tools. She/He is proficient in cell culture (established cell lines and primary cells) and screening sciences (assays automation, miniaturization, handling of screening instruments) and has experience in enzymology, signaling pathways and/or binding experiments.  Knowledge in neurosciences, molecular biology (cloning, viral vector production, transfection/transduction, CRISPR gene editing), and high content imaging will be considered as additional assets.

Education & Soft skills

Master level with minimum 3 years of experience, preferably in a biopharmaceutical and screening environment.

The successful candidate is expected to be open minded, rigorous in the lab, respectful of compliance and timelines, and to have excellent interpersonal relationships as the job requires frequent interactions with colleagues within and across departments as well as with external collaborators. Consequently, good communication is essential. The candidate will be fluent in English (spoken and written) as it is the official language used in meetings as well as for written reporting.
