Research Scientist Cell biology

Job nature, scope and main accountabilities:

We are currently hiring a talented cellular biologist. The remits of our group include but are not limited to support our pre-clinical CNS projects by developing differentiating and disease relevant biochemical and cell based assays, by screening compounds and delivering high quality data in a timely fashion, by studying and understanding the mechanism of action of more advanced compounds in order to select only the best candidates to progress to the clinic. In order to achieve these goals the group has access to state of the art equipment and technologies either internally or through collaborations.

To further strengthen our capabilities in cell biology and biomarker discovery, we are seeking a skilled, lab-based scientist with experience in cell biology. The candidate will be part of a team implementing and running novel CNS disease relevant assays to identify and validate targets, to screen and understand the mechanism of action of compounds and to set-up assays to identify target related biomarkers.

She/ He will be providing high quality data and scientific support under supervision of PhD level scientists. Keeping up-to-date with relevant scientific literature and pro-actively searching for new methodologies and suggesting new steps during assay development will be essential.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Master level with 3-5 years of experience, preferably in a bio-pharmaceutical environment.
  • The ideal candidate will have acquired his/her master degree in the field of cell biology with minimum 3 years of experience in a bio-pharmaceutical company.
  • She/ He is able to set-up bespoke assays to probe signaling pathways using immunocytochemistry and cell based assays and knows how to quantify and analyze relevant data and parameters using imaging and other software.
  • She/ He will be proficient in cell culture (established cell lines and primary neurons and/or iPSC derived neurons) and has basic skills in molecular biology (cloning, viral vector production, transfection/transduction, CRISPR gene editing).
  • Knowledge in Neurosciences and in receptor, ion channels or enzyme pharmacology will be considered as additional assets.

The successful candidate is expected to be open minded, have excellent interpersonal relationships as the job requires many interactions with colleagues within and across departments and with external collaborators. Consequently, good communication is essential. The candidate will be fluent in English (spoken and written) as it is the official language used in meetings as well as for written reporting.
