Research Scientist in Neurodegeneration

Location: Braine L'alleud, Walloon Brabant, Belgium

 

The neuroscience department at UCB is searching for a highly motivated individual with extensive experience in cell and molecular biology to join our team focused on drug discovery efforts in the field of neurodegeneration.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Independent development and implementation of novel cellular assays to support therapeutic projects
  • Independent design and execution of experiments to support target validation and mechanism of action studies
  • Clear and concise presentation of data at internal and external meetings
  • Maintaining a current and continuously updated knowledge of the latest developments in the field, through reading and attendance at external conferences

 

Required skills include:

  • Expertise in cell and molecular biology, preferably in the context of neuroscience
  • Experience in advanced microscopy, and high content imaging
  • Ability to critically analyze own data, troubleshoot problems, and seek solutions with minimal oversight
  • Ability to independently learn and rapidly integrate novel technologies
  • Willingness to work in a cross-functional team-oriented environment with common goals
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines with short timelines
  • Demonstrated productivity evidenced by publication in high quality peer-reviewed journals
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and statistical capabilities

 

Additional experience & skills we would welcome:

  • Experience in neuroscience and CNS-focused biology and techniques
  • Experience in chemical biology, proteomics, molecular probes & activity-based protein profiling
  • Experience with complex cell culture systems: stem cell maintenance and differentiation, primary cell isolation and culture, 3D cultures.
  • Experience with live cell imaging
  • Experience with gene editing tools
  • Industry experience

 

Education:

  • Master’s degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or related field with 3-5 years of research experience
    OR
  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or related field with up to 3 years post-graduate training.

 

Language:

  • Fluent written and spoken English required
  • French language skills desirable
