To strengthen our Biotech Sciences department, based in Braine l’Alleud, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Scientist


As a UCB Scientist, you like to work in an environment where you can:  

  • Contribute establishing relevant preformulation activities in the BFD group.
  • Identify, assess, implement and apply a series of biophysical testings in order to participate to the selection of preferred compositions.
  • Disseminate acquired knowledge on specific protein behaviors and to draw correlations with protein long-term stability data.


As a UCB Scientist, you will contribute by:

  • Building an updated and exhaustive listing of biophysical techniques for BFD applications
  • Ensuring optimal BFD internal or external availability for assessment and potentially long-term usage
  • Building and diffusing knowledge on theoretical and practical applicability of biophysical techniques
  • Building and diffusing knowledge on mechanisms underlying events captured through biophysical testing applied to proteins.
  • Facilitating the establishment of correlation between biophysical outputs and stability of proteins.
  • Contributing to the establishment of a preformulation platform.
  • Understanding of formulation design studies, which include excipient stabilization, protein stabilization technologies, robustness verification, optimization and lyophilization development through preformulation and long-term stability studies.
  • Awareness and communication of preformulation and formulation technical advances within the industry, and application to UCB candidates, where applicable.


Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

  • A minimum of 1-2 years in pharma development combined with a PhD in Protein chemistry/Bioengineering and demonstrated expertise in high order structure of proteins as well as interpreting indicators of colloidal and conformational stability.
  • An understanding of the issues and challenges of taking products coming from research to development process and into clinical manufacture is required.
  • Good knowledge of analytical, preformulation and formulation development specifically sterile presentation of biological entities.
  • Good knowledged of cGMP at early stage of development.
  • Good communication and team player skills are required as there will be significant contacts with internal groups.
