Cell biologist pathway based drug discovery

Job nature, scope and main accountabilities:

We are currently hiring a talented cell biologist with experience in biomarker and pathway-based drug discovery. The remits of our group include but are not limited to support our pre-clinical CNS projects by developing differentiating and disease relevant biochemical and cell based assays, by screening compounds and delivering high quality data in a timely fashion, by studying the mechanism of action of more advanced compounds in order to select only the best candidates to progress into the clinic and by understanding target biology to identify relevant target engagement biomarkers. In order to achieve these goals the group has access to state of the art equipment and technologies either internally or through collaborations.

To further strengthen our capabilities, we are seeking a highly skilled, lab-based scientist with experience in drug target interactions, signaling pathways, cell biology and/or biomarker discovery.

The candidate will provide high quality data and scientific support as full member of project teams. Keeping up-to-date with relevant scientific literature to pro-actively identify and recommend new targets or new assays / technologies will be essential. Whenever possible, publications of data in peer reviewed journals is also highly encouraged.

Education, Experience and Skills

  • PhD level, preferably with experience in a bio-pharmaceutical environment.
  • The ideal candidate will have acquired his/her PhD in the field(s) of in vitro pharmacology / cell biology and will have a proven track record of publications in peer reviewed, high quality science journals.
  • She/ He is able to set-up bespoke assays to probe drug target interactions (binding assays), signaling pathways, mode of actions of drugs and knows how to quantify and analyze relevant data and parameters using adequately described mathematical models (using Excel and/or Graphpad Prism).
  • Expertise in receptor, ion channel, enzyme pharmacology or/and in cellular signaling pathways is essential. She/He will be proficient in cell culture (established cell lines and primary neurons and/or iPSC derived neurons) and has good skills in molecular biology (cloning, transfection, CRISPR gene editing).
  • Knowledge in Neurosciences and high content imaging will be considered as additional assets.

The successful candidate is expected to be open minded, have excellent interpersonal relationships as the job requires many interactions with colleagues within and across departments and with external collaborators. Consequently, good communication is essential. The candidate will be fluent in English (spoken and written) as it is the official language used in meetings as well as for written reporting.
