Senior / Principal Scientist Neurodegeneration



Nature, scope and major accountabilities:


This is an exciting role for an outstanding cell biologist to work within the Neuroscience Therapeutic Area, engaging in breakthrough drug discovery research in a vibrant environment – inspired by patients, driven by science.


The successful candidate will be an experienced in-vitro neurobiologist and will:


  • Engage in exciting new drug discovery research targeting the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Identify, validate and progress innovative new drug targets.
  • Develop critical assays for small molecule and antibody projects.
  • Work proactively across sites and functions and with external parties to advance projects.
  • Support ongoing and future projects by designing, implementing and running cell based assays.
  • Perform target validation and mechanism of action studies.
  • Coach and train scientific staff in the use of new technologies
  • Represent the department on project teams by giving effective presentations and critically analyzing data.
  • Willingness to act as a project champion and ability to develop into a team leader
  • Represent and promote UCB research activities at internal and external scientific meetings and by publishing studies in peer reviewed journals
  • Develop a strong network with academic experts and initiate and run external studies and collaborations



Education and Experience


  • PhD in neuroscience
  • Postdoctoral experience in neurodegeneration coupled with an excellent publication record
  • Experience in drug discovery would be highly desirable


Desirable Knowledge/Expertise/Skills


  • Expertise in neurobiology
  • Experience in neurodegeneration
  • Knowledge and experience of a wider range of in-vitro biological techniques, which may include molecular biology, biochemistry, analysis of signaling pathways, protein aggregation, membrane trafficking, immunocytochemistry
  • English required, French desirable
  • Strong analytical skills
