Ra Pharmaceuticals, now part of UCB, is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company based in Cambridge MA focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of novel therapeutics based on its proprietary peptide chemistry platform. Ra is developing therapeutics to treat serious diseases that are caused by excessive or uncontrolled activation of the complement system, a critical component of the immune system. We are currently seeking a talented Scientist to join the Systemic Biology and Translational Research group. The ideal candidate will have expertise in cell biology, microscopy techniques and high-content imaging.

 

You like to work in an environment where you can:

  • Develop in vitro/in vivo disease models within a variety of therapeutic areas.
  • Develop imaging-based functional studies, and validate therapeutic targets to support current and new drug discovery programs.
  • Learn new skills and develop scientific and therapeutic knowledge.

 

You will contribute by:

  • Utilizing your pharmaceutical industry experience to scale up iPSC-based in vitro disease models.
  • Bring your self-motivation and ability to work in a highly collaborative team by managing from the bench.

 

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree with +5 years or PhD with +3 years of experience in biology, bioengineering or a related discipline; industry working experience is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture using cell lines and primary cells, including iPSC-based in vitro disease models
  • Experience with acquisition and analysis of live cell and high-content imaging, including functional imaging (calcium mobilization, optogenetics)
  • Experience with cell-based high-throughput assay design and optimization
  • Experience with immunofluorescence techniques
  • Familiar with flow cytometry and biochemical assays (ELISA, western blots)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be a flexible and detailed-oriented bench scientist eager to work in a collaborative environment while having the ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
