The Care Optimization Synergist is the visionary leader and coach to our clinical team.  This individual creates systems to help Population Health Partners (PHP), Medical Science Partners (MSP), and Epilepsy Outcomes Partners (EOP) identify and collect pertinent insights into stakeholder challenges and priorities, and incorporate them into development plans and effective strategies.  This position will cover the Eastern or Western part of the U.S.


Job Summary:


  • Builds the Care Optimization discipline thru the teaching/coaching of competencies leading to improved performance for each the Care Optimization roles: Population Health Partners (PHP), Epilepsy Outcomes Partner (EOP), Medical Science Partner (MSP).
  • Guides the assessment, planning and implementation activities for each role to ensure maximum patient and stakeholder value creation, and fulfillment of nPVU strategies.
  • Ensures that individual Care Optimization roles have the training, market knowledge and resources to effectively and/ or drive patient value creation in support of achieving nPVU business objectives.
  • Supports Care Optimization roles in development of tactical plans for each territory that reflects the specific ecology and patient needs of stakeholders, and is aligned with the strategic and financial goals of the nPVU and ensuring consistency of role deployment across ecosystems.
  • Ensure UCB Operational Compliance to the highest professional standards.  The expectation is that compliance is a part of how we operate.  Compliance violations may lead to disciplinary action including impact on annual appraisals.  Adherence to compliant behavior is an expectation at UCB.


Key Activities:


  • Support the development of UCB population health strategies for gaining adoption of UCB approaches for improving diagnosis, treatment and overall management of epilepsy and movement disorders in ways that create patient value, advance stakeholder objectives and increase use of nPVU medicines where appropriate.
  • Works with PHP’s to tailor population health strategies for each target network tailored to the local healthcare ecosystems and patient needs and ensures consistency and learning from the PHP team.
  • Leads Epilepsy Outcomes Partners (EOP’s) in identifying payors, HCPs, academics or centers that can help uncover and communicate new insights into patient value creation, either through original research, access to unique data sources, or new interpretations of existing data.
  • Shares best practices in engagement and proposal process to secure data, findings and publications that document new perspectives on patient value creation with UCB promoted products across ecosystems and patient segments in accordance with Neurology RWE data strategy plan.
  • Helps MSP’s to foster use of UCB portfolio among health care professionals and practices in district using approved product information and other available resources tailored to the local ecosystem to support appropriate utilization of UCB medicines.
  • Supports consistent MSP interactions with key physician relationships according to their ecosystem, specialization, and scientific, epidemiological and/or therapeutic perspectives on patient value creation as the basis for collaborative engagement strategies. Identifies new opportunities for value creation through collaboration with local influencers and thought leaders on investigator initiated studies, publications and presentations.


Key Deliverables:


  • Annual Tactical Plans for each Care Optimization role, reflecting insights into unique challenges and opportunities for their territories.
  • Annual Action Plan for their area, based on roll-up of Care Optimization team action plans, and own insights into potential for patient and stakeholder value creation.
  • Consultation on individual development plans for Care Optimization roles in partnership with Ecosystem Leads.
  • Completion of coaching reports for each of the Care Optimization roles.
  • Active assessment of competencies, alignment with Ecosystem Leads and reporting to Leadership.

7-10 years in stakeholder facing roles within healthcare
Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary and/or matrixed teams
Bachelors’ degree in life sciences, business or healthcare required
M.B.A., PharmD, PhD or MD preferred
Knowledge of appropriate regulatory guidelines
Must have a performance rating of « meets expectations » or better on two most recent performance reviews
Demonstrated leadership skills in managing, developing, and influencing teams
Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications
Demonstrated strength in business planning, tactical plan


This position is field-based and will require travel as well as telecommute options.
