About Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) and Real-World Evidence (RWE)

Healthcare in Europe is changing. The increased life expectancy together with evolving medical knowledge leads to rising costs of healthcare. Where the boundaries of our willingness to pay are reached healthcare authorities are trying to cut costs and improve efficiency of healthcare spending.  Hence, we need to demonstrate the value of our drugs to patients and society better and be able to offer tailored solutions to enhance access. The documentation of value through health economics and outcomes research is a critical success factor to bring solutions in a tailormade way to targeted patient populations.

Real-World Evidence has an increasing impact in health care and is becoming integrated in payer’s decision making. UCB and our external stakeholders focus increasingly on to a deeper understanding of unmet needs in target patient populations, the realities of current clinical practice, and the benefits that solutions bring to patients in the real-world settings.

RWE development and assessment are more and more integrated in Northern Europe in processes like BENELUXA, FINOSE and Nordic tendering. Value Based Healthcare initiatives based on long-term collaborations with our stakeholders can help understand their needs, improve healthcare for patients, and free up resources for innovations.
