To strengthen our Accounting team, based in our hub in Monheim, Germany, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Senior Accountant


As a Senior Accountant, you will deliver high quality accounting services that achieve targets for timeliness, accuracy and financial control. As an international stakeholder, you will not only be an expert for local accounting processes in Germany, you will also support key activities of our Middle office in the UK and coordinate operational activities with our teams in India and Romania.

  • Taking the responsibility of specific activities within the Record to Report/compliance stream 


You will contribute by: 

  • Ensure timely and accurate month end and year end group reporting in line with Group reporting requirements (IFRS) for entities in scope in close collaboration with the local Finance Manager, the UCB Middle Office, and the outsourced accounting partner
  • Ensure that books of all entities in the area in scope are accurate, complete and financial statements are prepared on time in accordance with German GAAP in co-operation with the local Finance Manager, the local compliance/tax specialists and with our compliance co-sourcing partner (Big 4). Planning of deadlines, support the data gathering, coordination of steps including reviews by auditors and changes requested to consultants
  • Provide support to internal and external auditors as required/ Provide support during tax audits in collaboration with the local compliance/tax specialists
  • Coordination and support in physical inventory count on fixed assets, accounting, reconciliation and the divestment of assets
  • Ensure adherence to the local compliance framework (Bundesbank reporting, Intrastat, Sanction screening, Customs, etc.)
  • Management of relationship with local bank accounts including bank proxies communication and updates. 
  • Ensure adherence and testing of Global internal controls (supported by Middle Office)
  • Working with colleagues within the Middle Office and our off shore partners to identity efficiencies and implement improvements within other record to report processes, including using new technologies
  • Provide support to or lead global finance projects as required
  • Being the primary point of contact for the external CMO controller and external auditor for all cost accounting and stock related activities, i.e. ensure correct accounting of discards, write-offs, stock revaluation and interim accruals, as well for group as local reporting, Execute frequent (at least quarterly) control and correction of inventory located with distributors and/or subcontractors and conduct physical inventories (on-site) / monitor cycle count program 


Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or economics
  • 5 - 7 years relevant professional accounting experience in complex global, international companies
  • Strong technical accounting skills, especially German GAAP but International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is a plus 
  • Strong business process skills
  • Strong systems knowledge: Microsoft Office (Excel in particular), ERP (SAP), reporting software
  • Preferably knowledge of internal controls (Sox, COSO etc.)
  • Ability to research, compile, analyse, interpret and accurately report data, excellent analytical skills (critical mindset)
  • Committal towards a demanding working environment in terms of work efficiency and quality
  • Very good communication, networking and influencing skills within multicultural environment
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
