To help us meet our ambitions and provide the best solutions to patients, UCB is currently seeking a talented individual as an National Medical Science Liaison – Gastroenterology (MSL). The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a professional who serves as a key field-based scientific partner to healthcare providers and decision-makers, medical professional associations, and internal UCB colleagues. This professional will be responsible for executing key medical strategies to enhance and positively impact patients living with chronic inflammatory diseases. This position will support our Gastroenterology franchise in the Immunology Patient Value Unit (PVU) and will cover ½ of the United States.  Critical responsibilities included, but are not limited to:

 

  • Leads strategic medical engagements with key decision-makers within large medical groups and IDNs to enhance UCB’s ability to: 
    • effectively communicate unmet needs for patients and health systems in their management of Crohn’s Disease
    • engage with UCB’s clinical value proposition
    • generate actionable medical insight.  
  • Develops deep strategic understanding of medical influencers, diverse micro-ecosystems, interconnectivity of large immunology customers and local payer/IDN healthcare models.
  • Delivers and differentiates the clinical value proposition to: regional and national KOLs, key medical associations, as well as regional payers and IDN immunology stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Conducts local roundtables and education programs that aim enhance Key Opinion Leaders (KOL)s understanding of clinical unmet needs in their geography 
  • Serves as a scientific expert at key medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, clinical investigator meetings, and internal meetings. Support field-based cross-functional teams to provide medical expertise in access engagements as needed
  • Reviews and critiques scientific publications to help analyze and inform on healthcare trends in Gastroenterology 
  • Collects, analyzes, and communicates information concerning therapeutic area, treatment options, emerging standards of care, and competitive intelligence
  • Assesses feasibility, facilitates submission, and serves as the primary liaison between UCB and investigators, for unsolicited Investigator-Initiated Studies (IISs) from inception to publication
  • Operates at the highest level of UCB compliance and professional standards.  Adherence to compliant behavior is an expectation at UCB and demonstrated by embracing ethical decision-making practices and guidelines in all aspects of our organization.  

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Doctorate degree (PharmD, MD, DO, PhD, in a relevant field) or will consider NP/PA with clinical experience in relevant therapeutic area (Gastroenterology)
  • 3+ years of Field Medical experience preferred
  • Gastroenterology and/or other inflammatory disease experience strongly preferred.  
  • Strong-track record of established relationships and demonstrated ability to identify national and regional KOLs, in Gastroenterology
  • Basic business acumen with a solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of health economic principles and clinical trials
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts in 1:1 and group settings
  • Must be a strong team player and effectively interface with other internal departments including regional business units, marketing, sales, medical affairs, and clinical operations 
  • Strong time management, and organizational skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Extensive travel (up to 75%) required, including overnights and some weekends.
  • Valid US Driver’s License and with good driving record
  • Must reside within the assigned territory near a major hub airport
  • Must complete initial training and successfully pass all assessments within 90 days of hire
