At UCB, we put our heart, soul and skills into making a difference for people living with significant unmet needs. Working together, we blend the best of our talents to deliver thoughtful solutions that patients value. Will you join us in this pioneering adventure?

To strengthen our Real-World Evidence (RWE) department and support our pipeline of innovative medicines in new patient populations, we are looking to fill the position of RWE Strategy Lead based in our Global Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.  Full relocation provided.

About Real-World Evidence (RWE)

The world of drug development is changing; the evolving external environment increases our need to deliver differentiated solutions to specific patient populations, enhance access to those solutions and better demonstrate their value to society.

To achieve this vision, we aim to maximize the value provided by “Real-World Data” (RWD) from the health care system. Thus, we and our external stakeholders will gain a deeper understanding of unmet needs in those patient populations and the realities of current clinical practice.

Your role summary

As RWE Strategy Lead, you will provide leadership and subject matter expertise in RWE generation for one or more UCB assets currently undergoing late-stage development across several patient populations with high unmet need.

As such, this role provides a fantastic opportunity to shape UCB’s overall approach across an exciting and growing pipeline, specifically as it relates to women of child-bearing age and post-menopausal women' to increase understanding of new patient subpopulations by applying established and novel RWE generation methods, and ultimately, to impact the probability that our innovative medicines reach the right patients.

Your responsibilities

You will help ensure a flawless connection between RWE and the Business Units responsible for the development program and commercialization strategy in delivering and demonstrating the value of our pipeline.

Your contributions will advance UCB’s deeper understanding of diseases and patient populations, in order to:

  • drive strategic internal decision-making that empowers the development of differentiated R&D activities, successful product launches, and impactful post-marketing activities;
  • support external decision making by key stakeholder groups such as policy makers, payers, and prescribers
  • guide clinical development decisions with regards to the selection of appropriate clinical/patient-relevant endpoints, treatment comparators, target patients’ segments;
  • support key components of UCB’s patient value strategy through the exploration of new perspectives that can augment ‘traditional’ clinical data, thereby driving emerging opportunities designed to reduce the time to patient access to new medicines.

Furthermore, as the RWE Strategy Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Acting as a single point of contact for RWE expertise in the diseases and patient subpopulations targeted by the UCB asset(s), liaising with other RWE Strategy Leads and the wider RWE community to educate and drive the proactive identification and prioritization of RWE needs and opportunities;
  • Co-creating applicable global RWE Strategy & Tactical Plan;
  • Ensuring the execution of applicable global RWE studies, plus the delivery, interpretation and communication of findings;
  • Designing study concepts, and working with the relevant RWE Lead Scientists, Scientists, Methodologists and Analysts to translate these into study protocols;
  • Promoting the use of RWE in the external environment through collaborations with relevant colleagues in policy and external engagement at UCB

Your background and competencies

You hold a Masters degree (ideally a PhD) in Epidemiology, Outcomes Research or other relevant scientific discipline, and have a track record of publications in high-caliber peer-reviewed journals. You have at least 5 years’ experience in successfully delivering global and/or local RWE projects from conceptualization to publication within the pharmaceutical industry, or with a recognized expert consultancy or academic center of excellence. In addition to your expertise in study execution, you can demonstrate success in supporting the development and implementation of RWE strategy for specific disease areas and therapeutics. The ideal candidate would have experience of market launch in rare diseases.

You have developed a thorough understanding of pharmaceutical business models and cultural drivers, industry trends and best practices, plus internal/external stakeholders’ expectations of RWE (eg, regulatory affairs, patient safety, market access, policy makers, payers, and prescribers). Your ability to analyze facts and your expertise in the EU 5 / US healthcare environment allows you to leverage changes in healthcare systems to help plan and drive development of innovative patient access solutions.

Your oral/written English is excellent. In addition to your proven ability to write/edit scientific communications, you are comfortable and proficient at delivering presentations to senior industry or external stakeholder audiences. Your way of working builds strong relationships with cross-functional and cross-cultural project teams and key partners. You can influence without authority and proactively reach out to external/internal stakeholders to synthesize thinking, build advocacy and empower implementation of appropriate solutions. You are confident in initiating and prioritizing a large volume of diverse projects and activities in an organized, timely and impactful manner.  You can demonstrate an ‘out of the box’ vision, strategic and tactical capabilities.

Most importantly, you have a genuine interest in supporting UCB patient populations, and exhibit impeccable ethics and standards.
