Role overview

We are looking for a skilled scientist with experience in the field of antibody discovery to lead a team responsible for the generation of therapeutic and tool antibodies.  Reporting to the Head of Antibody Discovery, this is a Group Leader / Senior Group Leader Role with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact to our project portfolio.

 

Primary responsibilities

  • Delivery of antibodies as potential therapeutic molecules and as tool reagents to support projects from pre-portfolio to clinical candidates
  • Managing a team of experienced scientists to discover antibodies.  Prioritising and scheduling work, motivating and developing individuals and leading by example 
  • Ensuring UCB’s antibody discovery technologies remain world class and competitive
  • Assist in project planning and new target evaluation
  • Build relationships with other stakeholders and leaders across Antibody Biology, Discovery Science and the broader UCB organisation
  • Promotion of UCB’s capabilities and expertise externally

 

Essential experience

PhD (or equivalent) with signification research experience in an industrial or highly regarded academic laboratory with experience of scientific leadership and people management.

 

  • Experience of antibody discovery using display technologies, including naïve phage display
  • Experience/knowledge of other antibody discovery technologies, e.g. yeast display, hybridoma or single B cell methodologies
  • Familiarity with the therapeutic antibody drug discovery and development process
  • Track record of delivery and of scientific innovation
  • Proven ability to organize and schedule tasks to achieve project success
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written in formal/informal situations
  • Proven leadership and management experience
  • Ability to think strategically and see the big picture
