To strengthen our Global Legal Affairs Group, we are looking to fill the position of: Legal Counsel.
 

The Opportunity:
The Legal Counsel will be a valued member of Global Legal Affairs and be part of a team of lawyers responsible for providing general legal counsel to all operations, transactions and projects arising out of the following business units:

  1. ‘New Medicines’ which is UCB’s R&D function dedicated to drug discovery, early stage clinical and non-clinical research, etc.
  2. ‘Technical and Supply Operations’ comprising pharma/biotech sciences (e.g. process and formulation development), global manufacturing partnerships & alliances, global supply chain, clinical trial supplies and device development & supply.
     

The position will be based at UCB’s office in Slough where some international travel may be required including to UCB’s Brussels headquarters.
 

About the Role
You will be responsible for:

  • Contract work such as pre-clinical R&D in- and out-licensing agreements, research collaborations, product and technology licences, manufacturing & supply, consultancies, consortia, general R&D and other agreements specific to the biopharmaceutical sector, in Belgium/UK and other jurisdictions.
  • Legal advisory work; such as risk analyses, providing legal opinions, advising senior management, contract interpretation, strategic advice and resolution of contract disputes.
  • Contributing to team-driven initiatives towards improving legal support and collaboration with the business and interacting with other internal attorneys to promote alignment.
  • Maintaining awareness and understanding of current healthcare and medicines laws, rules, codes, industry best practices and the enforcement environment.
     

About You
You should have:

  • Several years of post-qualification legal experience.
  • Initial training and experience in a reputable law firm (e.g. IP Department or Corporate/Commercial Department, with some IP focus).
  • Substantial experience drafting, negotiating and advising upon commercial contracts (including transactional experience), with a high-level of attention to detail and commercial awareness.
  • Exceptional technical legal skills, preferably with some experience in research and development transactions or manufacturing in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
  • Some level of scientific and/or technical knowledge and experience related to life sciences/healthcare is desirable.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • An understanding of GDPR and how to apply it in a business context.
