At UCB everything we do starts with a simple question: “How will this make a difference to the lives of people living with severe diseases?” We do that by connecting with patients and their families around the world living with the physical and social burdens of severe disease of the immune system and the central nervous system. Those connections offer new perspectives, drive innovation, and offer the hope of a new generation of therapies that will help to transform lives.

Role Overview

We are currently seeking an expert Analytical Biochemist with experience in analytical assay design and qualification for proteins, and a good understanding of both protein structure, and antibody engineering and production.

This lab based role will work across different teams and be responsible for designing, qualifying and implementing analytical assays to support all aspects of antibody and protein therapeutic development for these teams.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Developing analytical assays to support new therapeutic molecules from conception to clinical development; involving the development and implementation of new assays, as well as optimisation and refinement of current assays.
  • Identification of critical protein characteristics that require analytical monitoring and building an understanding of how these could impact on later stage clinical manufacturing and testing.
  • Supporting all aspects of analytical assays for bispecific antibody and complex protein based therapeutic projects from inception to therapeutic cell line generation.
  • Liaising with various teams within the Discovery Science function.

Essential Experience

  • PhD (or equivalent) with significant practical experience in assay design and qualification – in particular high throughput HPLC/ULPC based assays that elucidate protein structure.
  • A strong understanding of antibody and protein structure, engineering, production and analysis are essential.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills; the ability to work effectively across teams; have excellent record keeping
  • Demonstrateable ability to invent and implement innovative ideas.

UCB is a global biopharmaceutical company. We focus on discovering and developing innovative medicines and lateral solutions that can transform the everyday lives of people with severe diseases of the immune system – or the central nervous system.
