This position will be based in Slough, UK, reporting to Lead of Human Tissue Technologies.

 

Role overview

Access to human tissue is central to the research activities in the Discovery and Immunology Therapeutic Areas in UCB. The person in this post will be responsible for facilitating all processes and documentation necessary to enable this access.  To provide a professional, accurate, efficient and timely service to a wide range of people including scientist, biomarker leads, project leads, team leaders or external contacts. 

 

Providing a professional image when dealing with academic institution enquiries, private tissue providers, internal requests, etc.  Responding to requests for information, both internal and external, in a timely manner and ensure the necessary confidentiality of all the information in relation with projects.  To ensure compliance with the provision of Health and Safety Guidelines, Human Tissue Authority regulations in the UK, patient confidentiality and GDPR and  intellectual property rights.

 

Primary resposibilities

  • Provide support to maintain current and historic record keeping around human tissue provision: such as ethics approvals, consent forms, certificate of analysis and material transfer agreements or service agreements.
  • Ensure up to date contact details are kept for all human tissue providers to UCB
  • Perform detailed reports of tissue providers, highlighting and prioritising any issues, options, problems or solutions.
  • Manage communications with contracts, legal and financial teams within UCB.
  • Provide expert advice on regulatory matters pertaining acquisition of human tissue
  • Summarise and report on the Human Tissue and Human Tissue technologies budget lines.
  • Ensure smooth lines of communication with other department and teams within UCB.
  • Organise and record team meetings and other necessary meetings, keeping and circulating minutes or relevant actions. Ensure action points are dealt with. 
  • Provide expert advice on the establishment, contract requirements and running of research collaborations with academic institutions.
  • Assist in the development of ethics submissions when needed.
  • Deal with communication problems that may affect the smooth running of the team
  • Deal with delivery issues of clinical samples to and from other sites
  • Contribute to decisions affecting the work of the team
  • Co-ordinate own work with that of others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
  • Remind members of the team of important milestones in the projects / pipelines

 

Essential requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacology, Biology or related areas is essential, Master's Degree (or equivalent) would be a preference       
  • Knowledge of ethics and other regulatory requirements for clinical and human research
  • Project management experience, in particular with clinical/translational studies
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the Human Tissue Act 2004 and General Data Protection Regulation 2018 is essential
  • Knowledge of other related regulations in relation to human tissue and research are desirable (Good Clinical Practice, Consent, Ethics in research).
  • Managing and ensuring smooth communication with tissue providers such as private companies, academic institutions and biobanks.
  • Additionally, project management activities within the Human Tissue Technology group, such as facilitating the workflow of requests to the Histology laboratory.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
