  1. PRIMARY FUNCTION: To lead a Market Access squad / team responsible for developing the Payer strategy for a Patient Value Unit, focused on value marketing, payer marketing, specialty pharmacy strategy and value based partnerships.

     

    • The Squad Leader will develop and lead a team of Market Access Strategy, Marketing professionals to provide strategic insight, knowledge, and support in the development of successful Market Access strategies and tactical resources used by field-based Account Executives and Field Reimbursement Managers
    • Responsibilities include development of Market Access channel and account marketing strategies and implementation, specialty pharmacy strategic initiatives, value based strategies, pull-through initiatives, payor market research, and assessing emerging market opportunities for a Patient Value unit.
    • This individual will collaborate closely with PVU/P/Operations Marketing, Account Management, Trade, Government Affairs & Communications, Legal, Regulatory, Commercial Analytics, Medical Affairs, Field Sales Management, and Training to ensure development of optimal marketing strategies and pull-through initiatives.  This individual will also keep US Market Access & Pricing leadership informed about changes and emerging issues in the market access environment and the subsequent implications, including updating and refining channel marketing strategies aligned to and in support of UCB products to optimize patient access opportunities.
  • Provide strategic leadership role for Market Access with the primary focus on driving strategy and for the Market Access team to support UCB products within a specific Patient Value Unit. This position will lead the development of strategies and tactics which will properly position UCB within multiple Market Access account segments, including government, commercial, specialty and institutional accounts. 

     

     

    B. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Describe up to eight essential responsibilities of this position including significant tasks, responsibilities and projects.

     

    • Collaborate with internal colleagues to conduct market research with key account segments to aid in the development of a comprehensive Market Access business strategy.
    • Ensure department is developing and maintaining a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the dynamics driving the various Market Access segments including Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, GPO, Long Term Care, Integrated Delivery Networks, VA/DoD, Employer Groups, retail & specialty pharmacies, distribution channels and emerging markets.
    • Lead PVU-focused team effort with agencies and vendors to develop and produce account and segment specific strategies, plans and pull-through materials.
    • Work closely with all segments of UCB to ensure that knowledge about how internal and external accounts are responding to Market Access programs/services/initiatives, contracting strategy, and pull-through tactics are being shared, understood and acted upon.
    • Working with Contracts and Pricing and Account teams, makes recommendations for contracting opportunities.
  • Develops and implements Market Access strategies and tactics for multiple account segments to maximize our resources and opportunities to drive key products.
  • Develops and implements account strategies and tactics to better position UCB within the evolving health care arena.
  • Responsible for representing Market Access internally and externally, according to Head of Market Access Payer Strategy & Innovation directions.
  • Plays a lead role in elevating Market Access knowledge within UCB.
  • Leads market research/ad board/focus group initiatives to gain appropriate knowledge regarding Market Access challenges and opportunities.

     

     

    C. EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: Describe the minimum level of education necessary for this position.

  •  

    Bachelor's Degree required

    Master's Degree preferred

     

     

    D.EXPERIENCE: List the type and length of experience. Include specific skills and knowledge necessary to meet the objectives of the position.

     

    Minimum 10 years US pharmaceutical experience with 5+ years US Market Access experience in positions responsible for strategy and account interface.  Contracting experience required, including successful negotiations with commercial MCO’s, PBMs, and government accounts.  Successful direct report and team leadership and development experience required.

     

  • Analytical skills including experience in conducting research, data mining, modeling, contract analysis
  • Comprehensive understanding of US healthcare system including providers, payors and influencers
  • Therapeutic experience within neurology and biologics required, including buy & bill
  • Experience with and knowledge of multiple Market Access channels
  • Strong cross-functional awareness and leadership ability (sales, Market Access, market research, regulatory, medical affairs, global department, clinical development, IT, etc.)
  • Proven experience developing, communicating and presenting channel strategies and business plans
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work well with all levels of employees and to influence activities in related departments
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with occasional consultation from supervisors.

     

     

    E. PROBLEM SOLVING: Describe the level of “self-starting” thinking required in the for recognizing, analyzing and solving problems.

     

  • Initiative and self-direction required due to the challenge of developing strategic input within Market Access
  • In-depth understanding of Market Access, contracting, and effective pull through techniques
  • In-depth understanding of US health care market, reforms and its potential impacts on UCB
  • Ability to generate, analyze and quantify options in order to identify appropriate solutions
  • Agency management experience required

     

     

    G, ANALYTICAL ABILITY: To what extent does your job require you to collect, analyze and interpret information of various kinds (e.g. facts/data)?

     

  • Must understand multiple account segments, including pending impacts from health care reform.
  • Must understand Market Access data resources within UCB.
  • Must understand how decisions are made by different payers and how to influence these decisions
  • Must understand field based personnel needs (Account Executives, Field Reimbursement Managers)
  • Must understand global and US implications of product decisions related to pricing and contracting.
  • Understands data needs to drive business decisions and has a solid understanding of industry data sources and methods for obtaining non-conventional data
  • Establishes tracking mechanisms, interprets, assesses and communicates data (contract performance, pull through effectiveness, etc) and prepares situational analysis 
  • Conducts analysis, interprets, draws conclusions, and makes recommendations and plans based on data findings.

     

     

    H. AUTHORITY TO ACT: Describe the degree of latitude this position has in making and implementing decisions and the amount  and type of supervisory review provided and received.

     

  • High degree of influence across many departments to support US Market Access.
  • Participation in regular Market Access staff meetings.
  • Constant interface throughout Market Access Marketing and PVUs.

     

     

    I. WORKING CONDITIONS: Describe any necessary items pertaining to the position:

 

  • Willingness to travel up to 50 %.  Domestic & international travel will be required.

     

     

    J. SUPERVISORY OR MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Select, develop and lead Market Access Marketing home office-based staff.
