To strengthen our Immunology Business Unit Central Europe, either based in Austria or Switzerland, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Medical Strategy Lead Immunology Alps.

 

As Medical Strategy Lead you will be the senior medical & scientific expert for the therapeutic area (TA) of Immunology providing senior medical leadership on the therapeutic area strategy and medical & scientific subject matter expertise

 – in alignment with the overall strategy set at Global and regional level. You will be primarily responsible for setting the overall medical strategy for the TA at the country level as input into the cross-functional strategy, by translating science into value for patients and business; provides medical strategic direction to the TA Medical Affairs Teams enabling successful execution of the medical components of the local patient value brand plans (PVBP).

You will contribute by:

Medical Strategy

  • Deliver the medical TA strategy as part of the cross-functional strategy, by translating science into value for patients and business, in collaboration with the cross functional team and aligned with the global/regional strategy;
  • Provide medical input to the TA cross-functional team/ unit, Market Access and External Engagement to ensure the successful integration of critical medically focused deliverables for existing products and launches of new products.
  • Anticipate and identify areas of strategic interest within the country care management system and addresses those through the medical component of the local PVBP/ Medical Affairs Plan and key medical deliverables (evidence generation plans & study concepts, medical stakeholders’ engagement, scientific communication and quality of care initiatives).
  • Drive the pre-launch medical strategy & execution for new assets and coordinates local / area input and contribution into the asset clinical programs
  • Represent the expert medical viewpoint and insights based on local input into the regional/ global strategy and works with the regional/global teams to generate strategy and plans meaningful for countries; including evidence generation for which will articulate the country specific needs, include in the regional & global evidence generation plans and collaborate with clinical development for execution.
  • Lead the decision of execution, and review & approval as applicable, of key medical deliverables from point of view of the TA scientific expertise & alignment with the medical & asset strategy (eg evidence generation, scientific communication, Ad Boards, funding, IIS, etc); responsible for the execution of defined specific deliverables on the medical plan that require higher level of expertise, experience or external engagement

Scientific and medical expertise to internal teams ensuring high level of scientific & TA acumen across the organization particularly to the medical teams; champions medical excellence

  • Education and training: develop the concept of medical training programs to ensure that TA medical teams, cross functional teams and key internal stakeholders have appropriate levels of expertise in relevant disease states and with relevant products, in line with UCB standards of scientific leadership
  • Key responsibility for medical & scientific guidance for medical teams, especially for the Field Medical Lead & MSLs
  • Role models high ethical and compliance standards to the associates within the TAs and contributes proactively to a credible image for UCB Medical Affairs for external and internal stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with the UCB standards and local regulations (regulatory, pharma codes, etc) for all medical affairs deliverables in the TA team, directly and in collaboration with the Country Medical Lead (medical plans, medical events, material clearance and external funding as appropriate (grants, donation, sponsorships, IIS)). Provides scientific input into cross-functional and promotional projects to ensure highest scientific standard and foster compliance.
  • Work closely with the regional/ global medical teams to contribute to maintaining a high standard of scientific knowledge in the TA, providing local insights into the trends & needs in the care management in the TA and equally to contribute to the medical capability excellence with his/her local experience

Drive scientific engagement with selected relevant external stakeholders

  • Foster authentic peer scientific/medical engagement with national/ international top experts, professional societies, medical roles at payers and patient advocacy groups that require high level of expertise, experience and for complex collaboration projects

 

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

  • Master's degree in life sciences required, MD, PharmD, PhD preferred
  • Substantial Medical Affairs experience within the pharmaceutical industry, (5-8+ years in senior position) in the field of Immunology
  • Strong understanding of clinical development and study management, as well as real world evidence generation plans and practices
  • Track record of contribution to / medical/ clinical development strategies
  • Track record of leading cross-business/cross-functional planning, collaborating and solution building
  • Solid peer relationships with and exposure to external scientific/ clinical experts, professional & regulatory bodies, pharma associations; demonstrated ability to proactively engage internal and external leaders and serve as a medical expert
  • Solid knowledge of the pharma of Austria or/and Switzerland, environment and healthcare ecosystems and relevance for the business
  • Demonstrated experience of governance activities and their pragmatic implementation
