To strengthen our Patient Safety and Medical Management, based in one of our global offices in the US or Belgium we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Head, Strategic Partnering

 

As the Head, Strategic Partnering you will lead the team responsible for end-to-end strategic partnering / outsourcing for UCB (excludes clinical services) as well as driving / managing the partnerships post-implementation.

 

You like to work in an environment where you can:

  • Ensure excellence in strategic partnering (for non-trial partnering) including the review of potential business needs, development of the business case, selection of service provider, partnering oversight (governance, performance, escalation) to enable the execution of the UCB strategy at a Global level. 
  • Develop relevant strategies, running outsourcing initiatives, contract knowledge and experience along with developing relevant quality and time related SLAs and KPIs.

 

You will:

  • Set strategic direction for strategic partnering for services across UCB (including Medical Affairs, Patient Safety and Medical Management, Regulatory, Quality and RWE) and drive the development of novel strategies and approaches for resource optimization to address both current and long-term needs
  • Develop and implement processes and best practices to ensure appropriate activities are identified for partnering and that the best strategic partner(s) are selected, including development of a robust business case and thorough evaluation and selection process for potential partners as well aligning to UCB corporate strategy
  • Lead complex contract negotiations to ensure the partnership(s) include competitive rates and pricing structures, performance metrics, governance processes, and continuous improvement models that will lead to high quality delivery of services in compliance with UCB’s standards, SOPs and regulations
  • Lead and manage strategic partnership(s), including, contract management, governance, issue escalation and management, monitoring of partner performance, budget management and ongoing need(s) assessment
  • Implement and manage resourcing strategies and partnerships with business experts in providing high quality services required for the relevant functions.
  • Enhance value and optimize resourcing (both internal and external) by applying subject matter expertise, collaborative partnership management skills, subtle win/win negotiation strategies to promote an optimal business environment.
  • Enhance the governance model for each partnership. Guide UCB and Partner compliance with the governance model. Ensure that successes, extraordinary achievements, but also non-adherence to contract, failures, disputes are identified, rectified and escalated appropriately for attention, and related decision making / action.
  • Drive the development of business continuity, contingency and exit strategy plans for key partnerships. Lead the implementation of such plans as required.
  • Together with relative business functions and SMEs, establish best-in-class processes tools and working practices to foster open communication, quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness of the deliverables for each partnership in compliance with UCB standards, SOP and relevant regulations.
  • Predict potential block(s) to resourcing or partner deliverables and develop strategies and contingency plans to mitigate them.
  • Demonstrate value in terms of innovation, efficiency and other value adding initiatives, including the ability to demonstrate return on investments prior to taking relevant actions.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skillsets, work ethic and team player.
  • Tolerance for stress and ability to multi-task while managing and accepting unknowns
  • Expert leadership of matrix teams (composed of internal UCB and external UCB members)

 

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

  • Must have at least 8 years of experience in a senior biopharma or pharmaceutical role and 5+ years in a Senior Sourcing / Partnering role or equivalent relative experience.
  • Must have strong leadership capabilities, communication and relationship skillsets and ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment. 
  • Must be able to work effectively in a global cross-functional environment and possess strong project management skillsets.  
  • Ability to prioritize and strong attention to detail.
