To strengthen our Digital IT Foundations Team, we are looking for a Solution Architect,  based in Brussels, Belgium.

Job Summary

  • You will be actively engaged in various cross-functional teams composed of enterprise and security architects, lead developers,  integration specialists, compliance and privacy experts, infrastructure and DevOps tooling experts.
  • You will apply a solid understanding of requirements and systems analysis techniques to create Solution Architecture design inputs used by delivery squads.
  • You will be accountable for the adherence to your solution architecture design as well as the application of software engineering best-practice methodologies.
  • You will plan, schedule, and lead project assignments using various engineering techniques, processes, and methods with minimal guidance.  

Major Accountability

  • You will consolidate and document your designs into a Software Architecture Document (SAD), providing an overview of the system, its position in the ecosystem, its components and their interactions, in different views (conceptual, development, security, data flows, deployment, …).
  • You will participate in the development of standards and processes to support and facilitate the integration of related projects and initiatives.
  • You will be actively involved in Buy Vs Build discussions with Enterprise Architecture
  • You will follow the UCB Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) process and contribute to its regular updates.
  • You will continuously stay up to date with new technologies, trends and architectural patterns, and evaluating their implications for UCB.



  • 3 to 5 years of direct experience in system design or software architecture spanning backend/front end as well as mobile apps.
  • Experience of Cloud Native system design preferably in the Microsoft environment (Azure)
  • Broad working knowledge of programming languages and patterns.


  • Gathering of non-functional requirements and analysis of their impact on the design of the solution.
  • End-to-end software architecture design spanning all layers (including complex, large-scale and distributed systems) and  using proven styles and patterns where applicable.
  • Well-versed in documenting complex systems and experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and the associated technology stack (AWS and GCP are a plus)
  • Knowledge of Web and Mobile development stacks and frameworks (Angular, React, Ionic, Xamarin, React Native, Flutter…)
  • Experience of Docker and Kubernetes (AKS) in an enterprise environment.
  • Hands-on experience with SOAP, REST, layered, event-driven and (micro)service architectures is required.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps and Agile Methods.
  • An analytical approach and attitude, with an eye for detail, yet able to maintain the oversight of the overall architecture.
  • Experience with regulated environments (GxP, HIPAA, …) is a plus.
  • Experienced in code, complexity and dependency analysis.
  • Solid understanding of software security essentials.
  • Ability to rally up the experts through partnership and work in a collaborative environment, connecting with people and share experience
  • Ability to articulate the relationship between business strategy and technology strategy.
  • Excellent organization skills & ability to work effectively and independently while prioritizing tasks in a fast-changing environment.
  • Strong project management skills and high performer ensuring agile delivery of complex solution complying with high-quality standards.
  • Experience in explaining difficult concepts to decision-makers (both technical and non-technical audience) to help shape technology strategy.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership and ability to influence a large group of people
  • Demonstrated storytelling and impactful presentation skills
  • Fluent in English (written and oral), other languages (French, Dutch) are a plus.
