To strengthen the Ethics & Compliance Team based in the Smyrna, GA, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Data Privacy Lead U.S. & COE


The Data Privacy Lead US & Center of Excellence (CoE) is an experienced privacy professional with overall responsibility for developing and implementing an effective privacy and data protection program for the US. He/she is also a member of UCB’s Global Data Privacy CoE.  Based from UCB’s US Headquarters in Atlanta, GA this role reports to the Chief Privacy Officer who is based at UCB’s Global Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.


DUAL FOCUS: The Data Privacy Lead focuses primarily on data protection within the designated affiliate, but also supports the development, implementation and maintenance of the global data privacy program led by the UCB Head of Data Privacy.


You like to work in an environment where you can:

  • Provide oversight of Privacy and Data Protection Compliance for the US market and is the primary point of contact between the company and relevant local authorities.
  • Manage and conductsongoing reviews of company privacy governance framework including Binding Corporate Rules (BCRs).
  • Create and support a culture of Data Protection Awareness, provide guidance, training and enhance the compliant governance of data processing and handling activities throughout the organization. 
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of data protection laws, regulations, codes, and monitor key developments that would impact the supported affiliate or business units.  Advise the supported affiliate or business units regarding existing and future provisions. For future provisions, ensure appropriate impact analysis, planning and preparation work.
  • Drive risk assessments for data privacy compliance (e.g., Data Privacy Impact Assessments) in the supported affiliates or business organizations in close cooperation with UCB’s center of excellence and IT, ensuring that key stakeholders are informed on relevant risks and implementing remediation plans.


You will contribute by:

  • Providing input, expert advice and strategic guidance to the Chief Privacy Officer to ensure that the affiliates’ privacy risks are addressed in the overall privacy compliance strategy.
  • Maintaining knowledge of current Data Protection processes, activities, security and needs of Pharma industry.
  • Actively engaging the supported organization leadership in driving the tone from the top in integrity and leveraging communication cascaded to the organization to maintain a high level of data protection and privacy awareness.
  • Supporting the development and the implementation of global policies, procedures and associated business processes.
  • Co-creating and collaborating on business initiatives to foster innovation and creation of meaningful solutions for patients while ensuring data protection principles are respected.


Interested?  For this position, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate
  • 8 + years of deep experience in Privacy and Data Protection, preferably in the life-science or biotech industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop and apply pragmatic solutions to complex legal/regulatory challenges
  • Knowledge of policies and regulations on a global scale in APAC, EMEA and the Americas
