To strengthen our Global Patient Engagement team in rare diseases, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Patient Engagement Lead (PE Lead), to be located in Boston, US.

 

 

With a key focus to prepare for successful upcoming launches of differentiated treatment solutions for various patient populations living with severe rare conditions.

Reporting into the RoZi & MG Mission Global Head of Patient Engagement, this role will design and deliver innovative and differentiating Global Patient Engagement Strategies and Plan for specific patient populations. While acting as an ambassador of these patients’ populations throughout the life cycle, the PE Lead will have a more prominent focus to guide and inform on the engagement and advocacy opportunities for country-based activities and innovative ways to develop care solutions for patients and caregivers.

Provide Global leadership for UCB’s Patient group engagement and advocacy and individual patient engagement for the specific patient populations.

Informed by an in-depth understanding of patient groups needs and expectations across the regions In close collaboration with key external stakeholders and internal partners at country/regional level, the Patient Engagement Lead will ensure appropriate support to develop tailored plans, design journeys & fostering partnership opportunities to ensure we deliver on our patient engagement commitments. Plans will be expected to address key issues facing the business, like clinical development, access, pre-launch and launch strategies, contribute to major UCB/Patient Group partnership programs and initiatives and position UCB as a thought leader in high-profile external patient-focused and/or patient group-driven fora and partnerships.

 

 

You will contribute by:

 

  • Develop and execute innovative and differentiating Patient Group engagement/patient advocacy strategies and action plans.
  • Internally, act as a key ambassador of the specific patient populations’ unmet needs. Ensuring that the patient voice is informing key internal functional strategies
  • At the country level, building a solid mapping and reputation baseline of the key national patient groups
  • Identifying and engaging with patient communities/organizations at the initial phases of the asset continuum and with International Patient Organization.
  • Represent UCB at international medical congresses with patient group/advocate involvement, international patient group/advocate meetings and within international patient associations and patient-related events to raise awareness of UCB in specific patient populations.
  • Build trusting and long-term relationships and partnerships with international Patient Groups and Patient Advocates that aim at creating significant value for patients.
  • Coordinating the cross-functional input from the team to drive the global patient engagement activities        
  • Contributing to the tracking and translation of patient insights gathered by the teams
  • Ensuring, all along the process, the development of Patient Engagement plans at national level and alignment in execution with the Global PE Plan
  • Works hand in hand with the country PE Lead for patient engagement activities undertaken at country level, in a cross functional way.
  • Ensuring continuity and transversality of patient engagement.
  • Ensure prioritization and focus by measuring accordingly the progress made on the Patient Engagement and Advocacy journeys for each patient population from one asset to another.
  • Ensure exchange of best practices and internal consistent coordination in patient groups and patient advocates engagement across the UCB organization.
  • Identify key competencies, skills, and tools needed to deliver impactful strategic patient group and individual patient engagement plans at country level and assess the gaps within the internal network.
  • Develop and implement a training plan, and related tools, including onboarding and continuous learning plan addressing the need of patient group relationship management capability growth and for individual patient engagement in close collaboration with the Global Patient Engagement Team, Global Medical Affairs.

 

 

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

 

  • You have a background and experience in patient engagement and advocacy, more specifically for launch and post launch activities. Hence, you have a good understanding on public policy, patient access and healthcare system requirements relevant to rare and severe diseases that might impact patient advocacy plans and strategies. Experience related to product launches is nice to have.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ demonstrated expertise developing and managing international disease-focused advocacy campaigns with patient groups is mandatory; prior patient engagement and advocacy experience in rare disease field is preferred.
  • Extensive international experience in the healthcare industry and public health with an understanding of political/social/ethical matters relating to business.
  • Extensive experience in capability building
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate impactfully with a diverse range of stakeholders in a matrix environment.
  • Working expertise at local, regional and global level would be nice to have.
  • Driven by a strong sense of patient-centricity, where everything starts and ends with patients in mind.
  • Highly collaborative disposition
  • Excellent communications skills, when in silence and while speaking and writing. You also demonstrate experience in adapting your communication to a multicultural context.
  • Excellent listening skills which leaves others with the experience that they have been adequately listened to and understood.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze situations and derive a proposal to increase impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and build on other perspectives to negotiate effectively and/or define a common, shared agenda.
  • Thoughtful, creative identification of red threads of common interest or concern.
  • Demonstrated ability to “make things happen” with a strong sense of initiative and a willingness to “roll up the sleeves” and generate concrete results.
  • Persistent and resilient in the face of challenges and complexity (internal and external).
