To strengthen our Gene Therapy Vector Core Team, based in our Boston Office, in Bedford MA, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Research Scientist – AAV Upstream Process Development.


As a Research Scientist  you will contribute to multiple therapeutic gene therapy programs by supporting AAV upstream platform process development and enhancement. You will investigate bioreactor parameters to streamline process scale up from bench-scale to pilot-scale bioreactors.  


Major Accountabilities/Responsibilities:


  • Designs and executes bioreactor or shake flask studies to develop AAV upstream processes
  • Contributes to development of scale up strategy by analyzing in-house data, literature research, and communicating with external vendors to bring in new technologies
  • Collects and visualizes online and offline data from bioreactors, BGA, metabolite analyzers to monitor process performance and report deviations
  • Responsible for maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and management of reagents and chemicals inventory
  • Ability to function independently and communicate cross functionally across various UCB teams.
  • Ability to manage priorities, and engage/communicate in a multidisciplinary environment

     Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in upstream process development and bioreactor operation for AAV (1-3 years) or biologics (3+ years)
  • Good understanding of scaling up considerations
  • Experience in process modeling tools is a plus
