Job Summary 

  • The Medical Immunology Learning Partner reports to the Head of US Learning and Development and supports this person in the management of locally specific Immunology Medical Learning and Development programs with a clear focus on global standardized processes that fit business needs – including the right to operate locally.
  • The Learning Partner provides consultancy services to business partners. As a trusted partner they keep their internal customers updated with the latest developments in UCB global and local solutions. This includes proactive learning solutions designed to anticipate the learning needs of the medical team across all indications.
  • They act as an ambassador for our global UCB learning strategy. As well as being reactive and responding to ad-hoc learning requests, the Learning Partner must also proactively listen to and capture medical learning needs and assess whether or which learning solution can address them.
  • Using these insights, the Learning Partner then ensures learning needs are met using relevant and globally aligned solutions. This encompasses inputting towards: learning needs assessments; ideation of how to customize existing global solutions and, where global solutions are unavailable, ideating new specific solutions that meet the needs more locally. They then interact with and coordinate the design, content development, operations and facilitator teams to create meaningful and effective learning solutions for the local environment.


Major Accountabilities

 Partnering & Training: Scientific, Clinical, and Medical Expertise (40%)

  • Partner with medical leadership to drive the development, implementation, and delivery of the field MSL training programs from onboarding and through all stages of their development, based on their needs and the needs of the organization, in a manner consistent with best practices and applicable laws, regulations, and relevant SOPs, using internal UCB and external resources.
  • Continually evaluate and update training materials to address short and mid-term strategic therapeutic area priorities and field MSL clinical data gaps as identified by the Field Medical Strategists (FMS), instilling a spirit of continuous improvement.
  • Lead identification, development and application of resources to enhance training and assess its effectiveness.
  • Congress training including Compliance and scientific posters


Communications (20%)

  • Work within the cross functional US iPVU team to optimize communications to field MSL teams, including the dissemination of relevant clinical data, provide analyses of the clinical landscape, reactions to recently-released data, and expedite the delivery of medical field insights with analysis and identification of key themes and trends to support the development of the medical activities and in partnership with the therapeutic area FMS.
  • Lead development of internal MSL communications platform that facilitates skills-transfer to enhance field performance, (MSL Tips, “best practices”) strengthens communication skills, improves ecosystem acumen, and enriches relationship engagements
  • Manage training calendar and content development in collaboration with FMS and Medical Directors in alignment with defined field MSL needs. Being the trusted learning partner to local internal customers


Content SME and point person for Learning Experience Team of Designers and Developers of medical content (30%)

  • Leverage and optimize Learning Experience design and development teams to create content that meets the needs of the iPVU Medical team
  • Maintain documentation of key content, including training events and all training resources in online repository
  • In partnership with FMS, maintain current field resources that enable scientific engagement
  • Engage with resources to enable expertise with all technology-based resources and websites utilized by MSL
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant UCB SOPs, policies, and procedures across the field MSL team
  • Drive the continued evolution of influence mapping and KOL relationship management across all UCB touch points


Insights to Solutions Generation (10%)

  • Perform relevant field-based monitoring and insight gathering with key opinion leaders (KOL) and other influencers
  • Collaborate with Medical Directors and FMS in development of resources to assess field clinical data gaps and co-create solutions to address needs including data generation, publications, and RWE/HEOR/clinical studies
  • Function as disease state and therapeutic role expert and mentor for new hires.
  • Experience managing vendors, budgets and projects


Education and Qualification

  •  This position requires a deep understanding of medical trends within the immunology and health care environments and the ability to synthesize scientific insights and translate them effectively for MSL engagements with medical colleagues.
  • Advanced degree in biological sciences or related field (MD, DO, PharmD, Ph.D.) is desired with a strong balance and passion for the art and science of learning
  • Minimum 3+ years’ MSL experience; 2+ years of immunology experience is preferred
  • Minimum 3+ years’ functioning in a learning and development role within biotech, pharmaceutical or life sciences company with a track record of developing, communicating, and disseminating scientific information in an effective manner (timely, accurate, balanced, and easy to understand for multiple audiences)
  • In depth knowledge of immunology therapeutic areas (dermatology, rheumatology, gastroenterology) preferred
  • Must have a passion for developing people and expertise with adult principles of learning, curriculum design and delivery
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with internal communications
  • Scientific knowledge, business acumen; strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance environment
  • Prior technology, including LMS experience, is a plus and/or experience with Articulate, Storyline or Captivate.
  • Knowledge of FDA compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Interest in technology for training delivery and stakeholder engagement is desired
  • Ability to travel, up to 50% for major medical/scientific and company meetings
  • This full-time position reports to the Head of US Learning & Development and is based in Atlanta, GA; candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
