To strengthen our Corporate Affairs Team in Washington DC, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of Corporate Affairs Intern
 

Washington, DC is at the heart of change for the health care system, affecting patients, providers, and innovators of life changing therapies. To help support our efforts in this ever-changing healthcare landscape, the UCB team is looking for a motivated summer intern who is ready to apply knowledge of communications, advocacy, public affairs, public policy, and business in a fast paced, real world environment.
 

The Intern will work in UCB’s Washington, DC office supporting the company’s Corporate Affairs team, participating in activities related to public policy, public affairs and communications, and patient advocacy.  Specifically, the Intern will be responsible for the following activities:
• Partner with the advocacy team to pull-through the strategic advocacy plan for organizations in Washington, DC
• Integrate the policy/public affairs strategy into meetings with DC-based patient and provider organizations
• Collaborate with the Communications and Public Affairs team on internal and external communications, including newsletters, issue briefs, blog posts, social media, and more
• Engage cross-functionally in Corporate Affairs to compile reports and presentations
• Attend Congressional hearings and draft summaries for the policy team
• Maintain a list of federal legislation critical to UCB, including brief descriptions of bills, providing updates as legislation moves through the process
• Assist policy team with development of presentations to be delivered to internal stakeholders and partners
• Using a standardized template, develop a policy product profile for at least on UCB therapy to enable better understanding of impact of policy
• In coordination with government relations team, assist with development of materials to be distributed to policymakers and staff
• Under supervision of policy team, review new rules and regulations to assess implications for patient access to UCB treatments.

 

This is a very exciting opportunity for young professionals and we look forward to working with the Intern hired as they grow their skills.  A laptop and other resources necessary to support the work will be provided. This paid internship is currently expected to run from mid-May and continue through August 2020; subject to changes in the program plan, we expect to hire an Intern on a full time basis until August 2020, estimated at 20-40 hours per week on a flexible basis.

 

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Completion of Freshman year and current enrollment in a college program in at least one of the following majors: Business, Communications, Civics & Governments and/or Life Science

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong communication skills, particularly writing for different audiences and in different formats
• Ability to work independently after given initial direction by supervisor and meeting deadlines
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Ability to synthesize material quickly and provide clear and concise summaries
• Adept in researching, particularly government documents
• Experience developing presentations for different types of audiences, particularly using MS PowerPoint.
